I've seen this done many times on the Hasbro and Takara MP-03 Starscream, but never on Skywarp (I'm sure someone has, I've just never seen one posted). Anyway, I basically followed the tutorials on this site and from a few other sources. I opted to cut off the extra panels from the leg kibble and glued them on the back where they would be positioned in jet mode. I find this mod not only makes it look better, but makes transformation much easier as well. I also love the jet mode of this one versus the MP-11 mold, especially in these colors. Enjoy!
Man, I love Skywarp. Been meaning to get around to this for about two years. Since I finished my Starscream. You've inspired me. Looks great. Use anything special to space or attach the calf bits? They look so clean.
Heh, thanks! Yeah, I just got this guy and loved him except for the bits hanging off. I knew that if I didn't just do it right away I would never get at it, so I took the plunge and am glad I did. I saw a LOT of different methods for attaching the tail pieces to the calves, but the one I liked best was the method Jarrod posted in this thread. I had a couple extra wide-headed screws from leftover projects, but for the top screw I just used the stock screw that came out of the tail section (since you destroy the screw hole, you don't need it anymore for that anyway). I epoxied the pieces to the back for a nice, secure fit, but I just spot-super glued the tail sections to the calf in case I ever need to pop them off and tighten the screws underneath. I've got Starscream on the way and plan to do the same to him. I know everyone raves about the new MP-11 mold, but I just LOVE the jet mode so much on this one that I don't mind the extra bits on the robot mode, so long as they're managed correctly.
Is that the head from Thundercracker? I'd love to swap it out if someone had a spare they were willing to let go of...
Yep! I bought two when TRU Thundercracker was on sale. Slapped the original heads on that figure and called it a day
