Surprised that Inferno is beating Ironhide, wonder if that's shiny-new-figure syndrome that will wear off in a few weeks?
Monkey is such an awesome mecha action figure. Totally masterpiece figure of 2016. And this opinion is coming from a guy who despises furries.
Beast wars is probably my most hated series out there, but primal was the only Mp I bought this year. There's a general lack of monkey action figures, and having a ton of expressive faces helped make him worth it.
I don't have Primal nor Inferno right now, so I'll have to say Ironhide. Not a perfect figure, but I'm so happy we finally have a (IMO) genuinely good g1 Ironhide toy.
I do get why people are voting for Inferno, he's very impressive and ridiculously posable and expressive, and he is growing on me from my initial "He's not THAAAAAAT good" stance, but still don;t know if I'd even put him in my top 3 MPs this year. But then, for a figure this excellent to not get into that rarefied group for me personally just shows how amazing the releases have been this year. All the best Maz
Inferno, by a process of elimination. The rest all had greater design issues, assembly issues, or slipped down the list cause not G1. Delta Magnus is due a nod IMO. Although i think it hasn't been that popular.
Inferno by a hair, followed by Primal. They are both basically perfect representations of their respective characters, but Inferno's engineering is far more impressive.
For me, it's a very close battle between Optimus Primal and Inferno. Both are well built and have excellent engineering.
Don't have him in hand yet but after watching reviews, Ima go with Optimus Primal. Jingle bells, jingle bells, Munkky all the way.
I'm not the biggest Beast Wars guy, however I have to go with Primal. He looks incredible, as well as being a solid and fun figure.
I got a total of four Masterpiece toys this year - Road Rage, Hot Rod, Shockwave, and Primal. Road Rage was kinda 'meh', Shockwave ad Hot Rod were pretty nice, and Primal was most impressive. Part of it comes from the idea that, while Masterpiece toys strive for cartoon accuracy, there's only so much a physical object can look like a two-dimensional drawing. 3D CG is different, however, and while there are compromises, the sculpt and paint work do an amazing job recreating the on-screen appearance, down to the image-mapped textures and quirks of mid-nineties kids-TV-budget CG.
Maximum poll options was 10. Surprised it took someone this long to notice he was missing, probably a testament to his popularity
I still havent made my mind up but im leaning more toward Ironhide because I think Grapple will be even better than inferno. Speaking of Grapple will it even be this close next year, will anyone be close enough to challenge Megatron.
Hot Rod. I am biased of course, but on my New Dad budget, he's the only one on this list I just had to have. He does everything MP9 couldn't, and with style. I don't get all the proportion hate.... I mean, this IS his design. Sure the chest could've been shapelier but the arms are spot on. And soooo mobile. Oh, the poses I can do with him. The only real gripes I have are a too fragile visor and an ab crunch that shouldn't flap around without locking in. But at least in my eyes, he has it all. The other MP I bought was Grimlock, to replace the one I sold to pay bills 3 years ago. Which makes him the only TF I've ever rebought. But his design, personality, and size were things I just needed on my shelf. Ratchet was a contender for a while, but he's soo boring. And I do want blue Bluestreak and black Sideswipe, but have trouble justifying the price. Also, I only want Primal if they give us Megs.
Hot Rod. He's one of my very favorite characters and while the toy isn't perfect, it's such an improvement over MP 09 I just love it. It's so solid and stable compared to that fiddly mess. I also love Ironhide and Ratchet a lot more than I was expecting to. Brilliant transformation and the hip flaps, while still a baffling design choice, aren't nearly as bad in person as I thought they would be.
