Great review. I wonder what happened to this "new fangled" technology they were supposed to be using to simulate the fur. Looks like its just painted plastic.

Optibotimus forgot to extend the barrels in his wrist blasters in the review.

There was never any "new fangled technology to simulate fur."

What there is however is a printed texture to match the TV show's rudimentary fur textures for the beast mode parts, rather than paint. This is, technically, a newer technology (Bandai of Japan uses a similar effect to print on precise features and likenesses for the human figure's faces) but it's not like flocking or anything, and was never suppsoed to be.

It's a hydrographic transfer. Basically, the fur pattern is printed onto a sheet laid on top of a bin of water, and the figure is dipped into the bin to apply the paint. It's like an advanced tampograph that can wrap around 3D surfaces. It's used a lot to deco auto parts such as rims and wheels.

I play ice hockey as a goalie and a lot of goalies are getting their masks painted this way. It's faster and cheaper
