With Dinobot it literally came down to tolerance for the shoulder ratchets(off a few mm by 1 side causing 1 tooth not to engage and thereby seizing the ratchet). I fixed it with a plastic tag from a loaf of bread at the grocery store. There's more details for it in the Dinobot thread. The plastic that was shearing was actually very strong, I saw for myself how I was breaking it on accident and was able to save it via the bread tag.

It's not like the random cracks that are happening on Hound. For Dinobot it seems more isolated to a specific area.

Would've been nice if literally just buying a loaf of bread could fix Hound just like my Dinobot. Unfortunately that's not happening.

It's also the first retailer to acknowledge that it is, in fact, a big problem and not just a few isolated cases.

Yeah, Dinobot was a slightly different matter, but the consumer disappointment remains ...

For the most on point Hound comparison, I think BW Megatron is best - the cracking crotch issue with the purple plastic - another example of where it appears the materials used simply weren’t durable enough to withstand the rigors of assembly, let alone transformation and normal handling ...

BW Megatron breaking issue was incorrectly installed leg rachets, that only affected a few people. If the plastic was the problem all the people twirling theirs like a top to show how loose the waist was would have been the first with broken waist.

Maybe the pins are too big and they are putting a lot of stress on the joints, which leads to material fatigue.

Sorry to hear you boys and girls having trouble with this figure. Fantastic design and engineering but the material quality is utterly shameful. It's not so much transforming him causing the issue, it's simply the quality of the plastic they used is SO CHEAP and BAD, it's ridiculous!!! Hound cracks randomly just by standing there due to the plastic aging rapidly. Mean while Top chinese hardcore Takara fan boy reviewers are begging, absolutely begging people not to buy it due to it's quality, telling people to cancel their orders and wait for a KO. o_O

Bottom pic, Hound is Takara, Spike is you guys sorry to say.......

The cracking for BW Megatron was largely boiled down to misassembly(if the hips actually cracked apart, some of the surface looked cracked due to the way the plastic cured), Jarrod showed it when he took apart his. The cracks were largely isolated to the hips.

It's different with Hound where there's no telling when or where something is going to crack. The green plastic itself seems suspect so far.

I wonder if this scandal with MP Hound will sink the masterpiece line.

A widespread serious problem with product, resulting in distress and many returns, refunds and replacements, with crumbling replacements!! That is somewhat of a scandal IMO.

The above is compounded by the not infrequent qc problems with v3 MP Optimus, Dinobot, MP bw Megatron and V2 bumblebee.

When the only MP of recent times that doesn't have major qc problems is Arachnia then what you have is a scandalous line.

Well, they already pulled the same sheeze with Encore GodFireconvoy. Remember MP-09?

    And they are still here.

Yamato pulled off the same with their 1/60 Macross Valkyries with the same exploding shoulders.

Naaaaaaah. They'll still be here trucking.

the ‘narcissism of minor differences’ ... at the end of the day the mass of consumers don’t care if its misassembly, poor materials or faulty design ... they just want a transformer that doesn’t degrade upon simple handling ... a reasonable enough expectation that TT has repeatedly failed to meet, and no amount of “well ackshuallys” will wish away that fact ...

welp, i thought i was fortunate enough to get a copy without any crack, but i took him off display to give another look and look at what i found:

to be honest, it still feels like it’ll hold up just fine, but paying north of $100 for a cracked figure just doesn’t feel right. ordered from aj so i’m torn on whether it’s worth exchanging, but i’m inclined to want to send it back just so takara recognizes the severity of the recent trend.

i know this has been asked before, but what’s unclear is that if you request for an exchange, you’ll have to print out a customs sheet - do you just hand that to the usps guys along with the box?

Therein lies the rub for me too - I could put a little superglue in there and hope for the best, but I shouldn’t have to do that (and nor should you or anyone else) on a figure of this price, then have to spend the rest of my time with Hound waiting for something else to fail and/or not wanting to transform him. I like it to be my choice whether or not I transform something, not have it be a requirement to maintain a stable/unbroken figure. ;)

(sorry, can’t help with the USPS query :p )

I'm really at the point where I think my Hound is going to have to become a shelf queen for the rest of its existence if I want to keep it intact, and based on some people's experience even that might not be enough to save it. What a shame
