very nice man, this project looks awesome
Wow, what an update that I missed. Looking great...amazing scratch work as always Wikkid!
I used that Human Alliance ATV guys head for the mask as it has a rather bird-like feel to it. It's not exact to toon or comic or even toy for that matter but this is an area I went all Artsy interpretation an whatnot.
Here's the transformation for Hi-Test
^^Start by doing the splits Powermaster style.
^^Open the backs of the legs.
^^Bring legs up into an impossible yoga position and point the toes up.
^^Lay him on his face like he wished he were dead.
Dreadwinds almost done. Just needs weapons and finish his head.
Awesome, can't wait to see these finished.
Depending if you've already bought/picked out exactly what model you'll use for Darkwing:
The Tornado IDS is slightly shorter than the Tornado ADV. Don't know which you'd want for a base if the length is an issue, but figured the info may be useful if "3mm makes all the difference" or something. (the extra length is basically right behind the canopy, and the nosecone itself)
G1 Darkwing was an IDS.
Nice updates !
As good as MP11 is, imo HasTak should have done this
this is badass. any chance he is getting painted up like buster instead of dreadwind?
So happy to see this project is still going.
Darkw and Dreadw were among my favourite post movie figures. Fun characters and excellent toys. To see one of them become a Wikkid custom Masterpiece is thrilling.
Thanx fer lookin d00ds.
This kit is the Panavia Tornado GR4/4A. I'm not super sure if that was exactly what Darkwing was but seems a close match.
Also, I'd prefer these to be comic based rather than go after the Japanese cartoon likeness mostly because I've never seen the cartoon incarnations of Buster and Hydra. Marvel comic issue 42 featuring Darkwing and Dreadwind made me a Transformers fan all over again when I was a kid as the whole "Robots in Disguise" thing was a major factor in why I enjoyed the franchise.
Anywho, here's an update on Darkwings progress.
***missing his jaw that has fallen on the floor***
Nice ! So, that means you're going to use the pastel colors like in the comics ?
That's an IDS version of the jet (snub nosed, where as ADV is longer nosed. ADV = Air Defense Variant, IDV = InterDiction Strike).
Anyhow both jet's are looking stunning !
Got most of Throttles mechanics figured out. I wanted him to be completely different from Hi Test so I gave him a thinner leg by having the backpack transform into the bulk of the engine whereas Hi-Tests legs contain most of the engine parts.
Also made a big change to Darkwing. The original toy was basically a brick tied to the bottom of a plane so I'm trying to integrate jet parts into the robot mode to cut down on the kibble. (Yet maintain accuracy in both modes) The biggest change is the rear thruster ports now become his chest.
Also, with the arms now tucked within the aircraft body, I'll give him optional ordinance packages.
This custom was sold off and will be finished by another. I'm just updating with the transformation sequence.
^^Start by pulling the tail section straight back and the wings pull outward at an angle.
^^Rear section ends up as kibble on his back same as the toy and the wings fold back in the same way.
^^The legs roll down and extend.
^^Rotate waist 180. Position feet and flip out heels.
^^Turn arms out at the elbow and flip out fists.
^^Cockpit down. From here, just slide the whole upper body downwards. and....
^^...... he's ready for dooming.
long time dint log in....jaw drop again to see ur masterpiece brutha...will wtching this
Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I'm curious if these ever got finished. I know Wikkid sold these but did the new owner ever do anything with them?
Thanks for the step by step pics, this is so awesome!
