I think it was them reading boards like this where people were defending high prices that made them decide to try their hand so to speak. I guess we'll see what's what soon

This. The Joshes are in agreement.

It looks to me as though the shoulders are just hanging shoulderpads that fold over the actual shoulder joints (like PRID Voyager Megatron).

Actually we, as the consumers, are precisely the people who can make that statement, because the consumer is the one who decides what something should cost and uses that sentiment to determine whether to purchase the product at the price offered by the producer.

We can also do that, and as they pointed out, Terminus Hexatron is $140. So there's one anchor point. You can point to another with Star Saber at $170 but using that as a jumping off point for the claim that 3P products must always cost more than a 1P product of the same size is questionable, and TermHex already throws one question mark up for that.

There are also examples where an MMC product is larger than another 3P product based on the same figure yet is roughly the same MSRP. An example would be Seraphicus compared to HyperNovae. HN is much smaller, yet its MSRP was $200 IIRC and Seraph's was also around $200 if pre-ordered as a cab + trailer combo set. Not only did Seraph come out later, it's larger, more complex in engineering, more posable, and yet costs roughly the same at release in 2016 as HN did a couple years ago at its release.

Terminus Hexatron is way smaller. He's basically MP-10 size in robot mode.

Yes, but I wasn't comparing MMC pricing to other third parties. I was comparing it to Takara pricing, because that's more of a fixed point. In general, I believe Maketoys' pricing is higher than MMC's, but that doesn't really help derive what Carnifex will retail for.

Anyway, if Carnifex comes in at $180 or below, awesome! (Especially after Cynicus and Seraph.) I just don't think it'd be shocking for Carnifex to be more than that, though I'd be pretty surprised if it's close to $300.

Why is height the deciding factor rather than overall mass, if we're talking about product cost?

Or are you trying to compare an official toy product in (what we assume is) a consistent scale, with a 3P product that just happens to be roughly of the same scale, and then trying to use the pricing of one to justify a higher price for an upcoming 3P product that happens to be of a similar height? There are a few assumptive leaps in there. There are also many other factors that come into play for product cost.

And my example in the previous post demonstrated that pricing is all in how you choose to look at it. As a consumer - even one who is a fan of MMC, as am I - you should be looking at things first from the consumer perspective. That's how you save money. If you like the producer so much you want to give them more money, go ahead and do so on your own, rather than hoping for a raising of the price of a future product so everyone has to pay more. (Not that you in particular have that attitude, just that others seem to - hence the entire conversation going on in this thread). In fact, if people who wanted to pay more were free to do so, it might even reduce the cost for the rest of us! ;)

    From, the Tarn thread:

Not sure who gave the pricing information at the con, but this seems pretty inline with my expectations.

That seems quite reasonable. Which is usually the case for MMC.

$200 or less for Overlord sounds about what MMC would charge. If we can get it around $170 -$180 that would be pretty good. I need some sweet preorders soon!
