This was my favorite episode. It’s what I like in a what if story. Just crazy off the wall stories. This was a fun one.

This was the worst one yet, nothing in it made any sense at all. I've wanted to see a zombie story for a while, but this was not it. So many silly pointless things all at once.

I've been generally enjoying What If, but aside from the Captain Carter episode, none of the points of departure have been explained very well, "quantum virus" being no exception.

Yeah, this one was the worst. As a parent, it sucks to have an episode I can’t share with the kids. But if you’re going to have one, make it good. This wasn’t. So many moments of this thing made no sense.

The truth is, the MCU versions of the heroes would likely crush a zombie apocalypse in short order. So many of the decisions in this one made no sense at all.

Definitely the zombie episode is the weakest of the series so far. The other episodes were enjoyable for me and had something I could see as fun alternative stories but episode 5 is just a typical dumb zombie movie with Marvel characters.

It didn't stray from the bad horror movie formula, even going meta with Peter reminding everyone that they were doing things that they shouldn't be doing in zombie movies like splitting up.

I suppose for those who enjoy bad zombie movies, episode 5 was fun but it was a dud for me.

What If comics typically need a few logic leaps to work. That’s ok. But if you have to spend the whole story questioning the logic, that’s not good. This particular What If required a lot of ignoring logic.

I don’t think the MCU is a good fit for Marvel Zombies at all. The MCU heroes are far far more willing to use lethal force than their 616 counterparts. We’ve seen Iron Man deploy cluster bombs without a second thought. And Dr Strange and Wong are much more likely to have ignored the whole thing and stayed in the sanctum than their 616 counterparts.

It’s ok. It’s one of the weaker episodes. We have more to come down the line.

One of the heaviest, most metal and emotionally overpowering things in the whole MCU. Definitely my favorite episode so far. I thought all the character moments were great and I loved the tone, yet the heroes - particularly Peter - keeping their hope of a better day and still fighting to achieve it.

I haven't much cared for anything in the MCU since Infinity War/End Game pretty much spit out a bunch of total nonsense plots that also ruin anything coming after those events.

Loki doubled down on the Nonsense in End Game rather than fixing it.

What If...? is pretty much the only thing post End Game I was actually looking forward to since it all takes place in the Multiverse none of the nonsense rules of End Game/Loki really matter. And for the most part this series doesn't disappoint.

Episode 1 What if Captain Carter were the first Avenger?: I love the episode... but I don't get why they can't call her Captain Britain. I know that mantle is usually held by someone else but this is a different universe and if we can have Three Different Captain Americas in the same universe then we can handle Peggie Carter being Captain Britain in another universe separate from the Brian Braddock version.

Technically four different Captain Americas because Bucky has also held the title in the comics but I didn't include him because he hasn't taken up the mantle in the MCU and I don't think there are currently any plans to have a Bucky Barns Captain America.

Episode 2 What if T'Challa became a Star Lord?: I actually didn't know that Chadwick Boseman recorded dialog for this series before he passed. This is another reason I don't really see a point in going on with the MCU anymore, Black Panther 2 without him just feels like a waist of time. I'm glad we got more of him as this character even if it is just his voice for a cartoon. It's a really good episode. He'll show up again in later episodes but I think this is the only one where he's the main focus of the story. The only thing that does kind of bother me... did no one think to explain to Thanos that he could accomplish the same goal by doubling the resources rather than halving the population?

The episode ends with a scene that the way it's cut makes it seem like it's taking place at the same time or shortly after T'Challa returns to Earth but given most of the episode mirrors Gardians of the Galaxy Volume 1 and Ego didn't even show up till Volume 2 I have a feeling that one scene took place much later than the rest of the episode did.

Episode 3 What if the world lost it's mightiest heroes?: I'm going to fan theory here but... I think the Loki from this episode is the same President Loki variant from the Loki spin off... before he would end up in the TVA... The episode seems to imply him becoming President at the end. Anyway... kind of a weaker episode in the beginning but it would spoil the ending if they set up the beginning of this episode like most of the other episodes in this series.

I really love how they recreate scenes from the actual movies but things happen just a little bit different. That's a running theme through out all of these episodes that makes them was more enjoyable. I figured I should put something positive here because I'm about to hate all over the next episode.

Episode 4 What if Doctor Strange lost his heart instead of his hands?: The concept is good but the execution makes no flipping sense what so ever. First of all we're told that there is no version of history where Christine Palmer gets to live because if she doesn't die that Dr. Strange never becomes Sorcerer Supreme. The problem with this is that we know there IS a version of history where Christine DOES live and Dr. Strange STILL becomes Sorcerer Supreme, the version of events in the Sacred Time Line, in the movie... but this cartoon is essentially saying that time line doesn't exist. The next issue is that the Ancient One splits Dr. Strange's time line creating 2 variants of Dr. Strange in the same universe which also makes no sense. A split in the time line would automatically result in a new universe, that's how branching time line have already been established to work. If they said she brought another version of Dr. Strange from a different universe into this one there wouldn't be a problem but saying that she split his time line to create 2 variants in one universe breaks the already broken nonsense rules that End Game originally set up and Loki made worse. They've now tripled down on this nonsense. Look I know it's fiction but pick ONE set of rules for how this whole time travel/multiverse thing is suppose to work and STICK WITH IT. They contradict themselves and change the rules every singe time they try to explain how the rules work. It makes the story impossible to follow when they keep changing how it works. X-Men's weird messed up time line makes more sense than this crap. All of this nonsense just ruins the episode for me. Easily the worst episode of the series so far.

Episode 5 What if Zombies?: My favorite episode title so far and we're back to this series being really good. The one minor complaint... Zombie Thanos at the end... First off, Bruce just showed to warn everyone about Thanos at the beginning of the episode, Thanos hadn't even arrived on Earth yet. So how is it that the first time we actually see him at the end of the episode he's already infected and has the Mind stone which the heroes were going to use to make a cure just seconds earlier? That probably has something to do with the episodes being shorter than the movies and having to cut out a lot of material for time. Given how again... they recreate scenes from the actual movies with a few differences, I'd really like to chop together the original MCU scenes they recreated to get a better sense of how much time passed between scenes. Just like the Ego scene in episode 2, the Thanos scene in this episode feels totally disconnected from the rest of what happened like I missed a huge time of time.

It seems like the last episode of the season is going to be a big multiverse cross over thing bringing back characters from all the previous episodes. I'm assuming Captain Carter, T'Challa/Star Lord, Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange, and Spider-man assuming they only bring back one character per episode. I'm not as familiar with the What If...? comics but it was my understanding that they were all one off self contained stories. I actually like the idea of having a cross over to end the series with even if the comics didn't do that. It would be a shame to never see these characters again after their one offs. Apparently there's already a second season planned after the crossover. The first season is only 10 episodes it looks like but so far 4 out of 5 episodes are really good. The next episode is looking to be an Ironman episode... not sure what the title is yet but I seen a screen shot that's very clearly a recreation of a scene from the first Ironman movie. The Ironman movies were always my favorite in the MCU... except for 3, we shalt not speak of 3... so I expect whatever is in store for episode 6 might end up being my favorite episode of the whole series.

    This is actually incorrect.

Episode 1 takes place at the same time as Captain America First Avenger which would be YEARS before Loki takes place.

Episode 2 takes place at the same time as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 except for the last scene where Ego shows up Since Ego didn't try to find Peter Quill in the original time line till Vol. 2 Not that it matters that much as both movies would still take place AFTER the events of Loki.

Episode 3 takes place at the same time as Hulk, Ironman 2, and the first Thor movies all of which happen BEFORE the events of Loki. Side note all three of those movies actually take place in the same week.

Episode 4 Partially takes place at the same time as the Dr. Strange movie, though the majority of the episode actually happens after that movie would of ended, at least from Dr. Strange's point of view. Due to some time travel shenanigans he actually goes back to the night of the car crash multiple times and then time travels even further into the past to find a lost library of magic... so the episode takes places both before and after the events of Loki.

Episode 5 Actually happens at the same time as Infinity War which would be after the events of Loki.

The series Loki itself mainly follows a variant version of Loki from the First Avengers movie, since episode 3 of What If...? takes place BEFORE the events of that movie the version of Loki from this episode could very well a past version of the President Loki variant from the spin off. Of course the TVA also uses time travel technology so even if Main Loki did come from an earlier point in time there's no way of really knowing what point in time his variants in the series were taken from. From what I understand President Loki was just a one off side character and not much information was given about his back story before he got pruned by the TVA.

fact: Michael B Jordan is such a weeb his production company made an anime-inspired mecha series where he voices the main character.

    this episode more or less
lays out why having an alternate dimension Kilmonger take T'challa's place in Black Panther 2 like many fans suggested is a bad idea. as much as I like Michael, his character is not fit to be king.

The emotional freight train of Kilmonger meeting T'Challa in the Ancestral Plane with Ludwig Göransson's score was unexpected but hit harder than I expected.
