Apologies if this isn't the right forum for this mini review. Hopefully I'm not the only one who thinks this freelance peace-keeper has an honourary place in a true collectors display tl;dr Great figure, short, looks great and is nicely painted. My daughter loves him already and twice I've had to rescue both DH and the vehicons from having tea with Hello Kitty and a Creeper... Comes on the Marvel Infinite Series card Interesting bio, I wish it had referenced more about DH's line crossing history and his distinctive speech pattern, yes? Guess I'm not a better collector because I needed to look up mage Lupex. Unboxing, the figure comes with his signature shield, mace and hand axe. These are all made of soft rubber, which is used extensively on this figure - more on this in a moment. The figure has a decent range of motion: Arms - shoulder swivle & hinge, bicep swivel, hinged elbow, wrists rotate. The arms upper range is restricted by the shoulder pads. Legs - ball joint hips, thigh swivel, double jointed kness, hinged ankles. The thighs range of montion is restricted by the thigh guards. There is also an lower torso joint for waist articulation . The head turns, can look up a small amount but can look down quite far. There is no gun attachment or blaster included, however as he is in standard figure size there should be plenty of ready made and customising options to recreate a favourite weaponised look. While the combined cape / shoulder guards & fake chest feel like a cheat, the whole section is made of the flexible rubber material and can probably be shaped under heat to fit the fake chest sits more flush with the real chest. There are a couple of peg holes behind the fake chest that makes we wonder if it was originally designed to tab on to the figure. The cape section is beautifully sculpted and painted very nicely, with metallic blue making it really pop. The cape also provides very useful stability. This guy is not licking the table without a fight! The hands and shin guards are also made of the same rubber material. The back of his cape has slots to connect the shield and the shield has additional connectors to hold the weapons. Weapons can be held in hand and the shield can be mounted on his arm. Finally, the hands pop out easily and slotting in the weapons is utter simplicity. The fit is snug and secure. Conclusion; Overall a very nice figure and a great addition to a TF collectors line up. He looks great and looks the part of a freelance peace keeper. He is short, but works well with the recent shorter deluxe figures, except Animated Lockdown . I don't have any of the taller Cyberverse commanders or scouts movie scouts for comparison, but he's sticking with my FoC Shockwave - at least until he gets his next job I thoroughly recommend picking this guy up.
I like this guy. Glad I was able to get hime off HTS. But hoping for a bigger version someday. The joy for not having to driving around searching for him:
Ah, there's already a thread for this fella... I shall therefore add my pictures to this thread, yes? Death's Head is bigger than the Kaiyodo Revoltechs! So if you are that way inclined you can recreate scenes from the TFUK strips between old hornhead and Rodimus! Body in Question cover pose! I noticed that some Death's Head's chests are protruding a fair bit from his body. That's because the Marvel Universe Colossus figure's (that this is based on) chest actually tabs into torso, whereas Death's Head's doesn't. To solve it pop his head off and remove the cape/chest and dunk the top portion into boiling water for a few seconds. The plastic rubber will become more malleable so pinch them together and while holding it in it's new position run it under a cold tap to set it in it's new position. Put it back on, pop his head back and voila! No more unsightly chest gap. Heh-going to like it here, yes.
This figure certainly looks nice, but when you pick him up, he starts to fall apart... literally. The cape assembly is very flimsy. There's holes on both his chest and back where it looks like it should peg in place... but no pegs. Likewise, the shield/mace/axe all tab together very weakly, and often just fall off completely when I pick him up. Some of the joints are wonky on mine too. Some are loose, and one (right knee) is pretty much frozen. It's a good looking figure with vibrant colors and a crisp sculpt, but I'm disappointed with some of the design aspects and QC issues. :/
I wonder if he can carry Star Wars weapons……since I don't see Marvel figures getting a Weapons Pack………either that or Marauder Weapon sets
Finally got my Death's Head today. Getting a regular action figure reminded me just how spoiled we are when it comes to Transformers toys. I know that his main body is basically just a Colossus figure, but the laziness involved with the lack of tabs for the cape is pretty much inexcusable. The chest has places for it to tab in on both the front and the back but they didn't bother to mold tabs on the cape. Sigh. The solid buttocks means that he can't bend his leg back at all. There is no lateral articulation for the legs at all. The feet rotate but don't pivot which makes him very unstable in any positions other than "standing menacingly." The only real pro about his articulation that isn't typical of a Transformer is his double jointed knee and chest/waist articulation, but with the other issues it doesn't help. It's frustrating, but at the same time it is nice to finally have a Death's Head figure at about the deluxe scale. I don't regret getting him, but I'm definitely going to have to do the hot water trick on the cape. Any tips about removing the head? It seems pretty tight and I don't want to pull too hard. Also I see in the pictures that several of you guys have figure stands for his feet to peg into. Any recommendations on where to find a good one for him? I think that will definitely help me when it comes to a display.
I can spare a clear G.I. Joe stand if you need. It's the on in my pic in post #4 above. All you would have to do is pay for return postage. I think I can send it in regular envelope.....
