As I've read through the boards, I've seen various posts that mention family members like spouses and children who either, enjoy, approve, tolerate or dislike the hobby and it got me thinking,
What is your situation? Do you and your partner collect or do you each collect difference franchises? Do your kids enjoy it with you? Basically, I was just wondering what it's like collecting with a family.

Somewhere between "tolerates" (when there are toys on the tv stands) and "enjoys my child-like wonderment" (when no toys are underfoot).

My wife collects as well, and her collection is actually significantly larger than mine. She tends to lean towards 3P, whereas I stick to official. She has a near complete lost light crew, all 3P Overlords, legends and full sized DJD figures, almost all of the Occular Max cassettes, a ton of Starscream figures - which is her personal favorite character, a decent sized Megatron collection, a couple of Trypticons, include TR and Planet X, etc. In short she has a lot.

But unlike me, she also collects outside of Transformers. She has an impressive Godzilla figure collection, pops, Final Fantasy figures, monster hunter figures and plushies, and last, but far from least, a formidable video game collection with over a thousand games ranging from NES and Genesis to PS4 and most systems in between, all still working.

We even spent a considerable portion of our honeymoon in Japan hunting, and come back with a large duffel bag full of figures and toys, as well as some knives and other things.

The biggest problem is space, her collection expands at a larger rate than mine, so space is taken up rather quickly.

Godzilla is her absolute favorite actually, ever since she was a little girl. We stayed in the Godzilla hotel in Tokoyo and visited all the Godzilla sites we could while there.

My wife collects mostly horror things, so she has a few collectibles here and there, but we mostly keep our collections contained within our separate areas (I have a TON of stuff that needs its own room - mostly Godzilla, with Transformers and Jurassic stuff trailing right behind).
As far as Transformers go, she doesn't bat an eye at it. She loved the ROTF Leader class Starscream (since, according to her, it sounds like Mr. Burns?) and quotes it more often than one would think. I also have a photo somewhere of her attempt at transforming AOE Voyager Hound. It was bad. (Also doesn't help that she fell asleep during the movie.) She also HATES the name "Skorponok". Actively hates it, haha.

YES! I miss it so much. Did you get to stay in the "Godzilla Room" room? It was booked solid when I made my trip - I didn't know there was going to be a G-Tour that year!

I definitely thought so. I got to stay in the "Godzilla View Room", which was right next to the giant head. You could see his eyeball out the window. Worth every penny!

On the marriage part... Get back to me in 10 years.

Girlfriends are what I've got experience with this whole toy thing and both were pretty cool about it. My first (ex)girlfriend had only seen the bayverse (big fan of muscle car bee) movies but she thought they were cool and actively took interest in them, she actually went with me to see Bumblebee's December screening (and got a Tiny Turbo Changer). My second (ex)girlfriend tolerated them but her little brother loved them.

We didn’t have a view room, but we spent plenty of time out on the deck. It was a lot of fun. The room we did have was really pretty nice. After that we went and spent three nights at a hot springs where we had a private hot tub in the room.

My ex-wife tolerated them (and my Joes) as long as they were out of sight. No displays or anything of that nature.

There were a lot of reasons why we split. Many times she threatened to take my stuff and throw it away.

Like I said, there were a lot of reasons we split. Toys weren't at the top of the list.

My girlfriend has no issues. She doesn’t know much but went to TFCon with me. She finds all versions of Bumblebee adorable just from looking at my figures and watching the movie. She was the one who convinced me to try and save up for an MP 44. She has no issue with collecting because she collects Pusheen and we collect Nintendo stuff together.
