Sorry, 'Swipe, couldn't help myself :p

Anyway, been playing Scout class more lately and I'm getting damned frustrated. Mainly that I can't seem to even buy a kill. I just cannot manage to get very many kills, even if I manage to sneak up on someone cloaked and melee them. They just turn around and smoke me.

Had a moment last night that ticked me off. I'm playing my red and dark blue Road Rage(Arcee) scout, only lv7 so far. I snuck up on a scientist(Starscream chassis) while cloaked, have the Backstab perk, used Marking on him, and melee'd him from behind. I hit him clean, but he did not die. He whipped around and head shotted me. Somebody, anybody, please tell me how a scientist, of all classes, managed to survive that? There's just no way...

Yeah, after having stuff like that keep happening(people surviving melee's), starting to get pretty frustrated with the class. Any tips/build tips for staying alive and getting kills?

Chances are, the Scientist was a much higher level than you.

I have a lvl 15 Leader, and I can't even kill a Lvl 20+ Scientist in a couple of hits, just can't do it.

I don't get a lot of kills in Scout class either -but I do get a lot of assists.
Hit and run. Hit and run.

Yea, Scout and Scientist rely on the hit and run tactic.

Honestly, the damage model in this game seems to vary like the wind. Sometimes I can use the emp shot and two shot someone from halfway across the room and kill em. Other times I sneak up, shotgun, shotgun melee them from close range, and they still don't die. Hell I'm still trying to figure out why sometimes, players unaffected by War Cry can melee you (not in backstab or cloak) and take 3 off your life bar.

I love the scout. It's my best class with Leader. I kill anything with that little guy. Love the thread title lol!

I'm not sure if the target marker affects melee, but the combo you have set up is pretty effective. The hit detection for melee can be sorta touchy at times. As a scout I find it to be a good idea to play lone wolf. Don't be too close to your team (crossfire and what not) and try to pick off stragglers and solo targets. Also sniping is your friend- use it to nail enemies in vehicle mode especially (as they're a much wider target in this mode)

I don't know, I still find it kind of dubious. Scientist's don't have much health at all, and to survive a Backstab enhanced melee while Marked? I don't know, man.

That makes sense. Maybe the game just "brain farted" and didn't register my hit for some reason? That match didn't seem particulary laggy though.

Playing as a scout is tough? You can't get many kills? Sometimes I'd get 10-12 in a match.

Why didn't you scatter blast him after the melee? That garuntees a smoking corpse dude.

Best thing to use as a scout is the Surprise Attack perk for the short-term damage bonus.

Don't melee first. Get behind them if you can, get some shotgun shots off (about three for scientist should do it, three to four with other classes) then if they haven't gone down yet, Slice 'em. Granted, Soldiers will take more, but scouts and scientists will go down well enough if you can land everything.

And yeah, there damage can vary sometimes. I don't know if it's the lag not recording all the spreadshot hits or what. But it does work. My favorite classes are scout and soldier (though I've been enjoying the other two as well).

This is what I normally do with Scouts.

I've never been good with the Rogue/Stealthy classes (Tanks/Warriors are my staple), but even then I find I have little problems playing as a Scout.

Between getting up close while cloaked, and picking targets off from a distance, Scouts seem to fare well under most conditions for me.

    Word.

I'm a HUGE douche bag with that attack. Melee, scatter blast, run away. Even if it don't kill him (which it should) he's a dead man anyway if your team mates are anywhere near him.

My favorite tactic? I use cloak, I sneek up behind someone, I shoot 'em twice with the scatterblaster, and then I melee them. Works almost everytime time.

Sometimes, I don't even have to be sneaky. I have a Scout that's designed to resemble G1 Sunstreaker, I've equipped him with Scatterblaster and the Energon Battle Pistol, I gave him Marked Target as an abillity, and I gave him Health Matrix, or the upgrade that gives you health for everykill. I've had this guy take down groups of enemies by himself.

although it will obviously take you awhile to get there i've been having some moderate success with lvl 17 scout skill that makes mark target reduce armor (more?)

Aside from not having an assault rifle to start with, I find the scout fine to play. It's the scientist I have trouble with only having 3 health bars.

Yeah...there definitely seems to be a bit of issues with hit detection. Funny enough, there were people in a match I was in the day before, going on about the same thing with their scouts.

Don't give them the chance to, I have went 30-0 with my scout.
They're nearly overpowered if you use them properly, using cloak and mark target are my favorites.
Upgrades like sneak attack and the targeting chip that increases damage are insane when stacked.

Walk up cloaked, shoot first, mark target, melee and shoot again. (that is if the first two attacks don't finish them off)
If you mark target first it'll give away your position, unless you can mark then melee fast.
It's almost a one hit kill every time.
