Yeah, it's still a great figure. This fandom has a real problem with churn for churn's sake.

You must choose a side! Enjoying figures from multiple companies should never be tolerated. This hobby is serious business and does not exist for our entertainment. Begone with you fence-straddler!!!

My Downbeat is also safe but I’ll enjoy having Jive too. I also like my GT J4ZZ but am afraid to lift him from his perch for fear that his waist joint will crumble.

Ah, after 30+ years of the internet, I can still find things odd. It's the childlike wonder with which I view the world.

You don't agree? We always see this when a new figure comes out - the old threads for other figures of the same characters get bumped - people talking about how they're still happy with the old figure and such. There's no harm in it but I'm still going to make fun of it - it just really strikes me as needing assurance that money hasn't been wasted, that we wouldn't be better off with the new figure. Just kinda' reminds me of console wars and how people seem to need to talk about how great their choice of console is, as if they're doing it specifically to make themselves feel better about not getting to play the other consoles.

[edit] Just went back and saw that you were the one to bump the thread. Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers - I just can't help but be amused that we see this kind of thing almost every time a new figure comes out for a character with existing figures.

In this particular case (since it was me who bumped this thread), I saw lots of posts talking about Jive, and I thought "you know, I haven't played with Downbeat for a while - let's make him today's deskbot". So I brought him out to play with for a bit. He's good, and as a G1 toy fan he's definitely the right Jazz for me. There was no need for any reassurance about the right figure, as I knew that Jive was toon-style and not my thing. I'm not trying to convince myself or anyone else that Downbeat is better than Jive. They're different figures filling a different slot as far as I'm concerned.

Today, I am happy that Jive has been released, as I've had the chance to revisit a great toy that's sat in the cabinet for several months. And I also brought out G1 Jazz, one of only three of my own G1 collection to have survived from the 80s after my parents gave everything else away. He's cracked and superglued and floppy, and I love him.

This is all a good thing as far as I am concerned! Sorry for calling your comment odd - it just made me feel a bit sad that you thought my enthusiasm had some ulterior motive.

Jazz is great. But, of course, only the G1 toy is truly comic-accurate.

What is this page from? It looks like it's one of the earliest before they adopted to designs from the cartoon. But I thought I had all the early issues of this series and I don't remember this scene

UK issue 13. "The Enemy Within".

I love the look of Brawn in it in particular.

Ah the UK series. That explains it. I never had those growing up. The only UK story I ever saw was the one that they reprinted in the US called Man of Iron. Which was really good because it was kind of creepy which was a departure from the rest of the US Transformers stories. And which ironically was a Jazz story

You are correct that I thought your enthusiasm had an ulterior motive and that was definitely unkind of me. It didn't cross my mind that seeing the new figure would simply rekindle your enthusiasm for a figure you already own - in retrospect it's obvious that of course it would. Now I wonder if that's always been the case when old threads get bumped like this and I'm just seeing insecurity where there is none. Probably says something about me.

.... it says that I'm insecure. Fortunately, I feel secure enough to admit it :p

It was probably the whole “rather undeserved, so there” part that gave you that idea.

I quite enjoy Downbeat’s transformation because it seems like an update to TT’s Datsun Bros., but I also appreciate the way Jive goes from a more realistic (to me) alt-mode to a mostly toon-accurate bot. I look forward to doing my own comparisons when it gets here.

For "so there", read "that last bit was in blue text".

But are you as secure as Jazz..?

I actually prefer the Ricochet/Stepper deco to the Jazz one. I modified mine to look more like a real race car because I never liked the character’s flame graphics.

It’s definitely worth the purchase and one of my favorites.

    That’s an awesome custom!!

If I didn’t display all my MPs side by side with their G1s I would probably do something like that!!

If I had gotten the TE Mirage, I probably wouldn't have looked twice at the FT one. But that one slipped through the cracks for me. Can't catch 'em all. Your sig picture is great, btw.

i bought Jive for a friend, but am quite satisfied to stick with Downbeat & Bounceback for my own. Only thing I do wish is that I'd sprung for the limited reissue for a bit less toon-inspired when they were available. Well you know what they say about hind-sight. it comes out your arse, duh...
