Didn't they just drop Dirge a couple weeks ago? Even if they don't do any new figures, they already have the molds for this one.

They're not out of business but they closed their online store for replacement parts and things. They maybe aren't doing fantastic but are planning to get the last 2 Conehead seekers out this year.

downbeat is a perfect blend and it's color scheme is totally toon aside from the headlights, which are off for real world/toy... I'd like a more real world detailing and livery for car mode. With silver feet, gun and shins.

I'm working on mine replacing the headlights soon... It's just scary... If I mess up

Just ordered him myself from Omegalock. Arrived within 48hrs (I'm UK based obviously) and I'm chuffed. Gave me chance to test out a new purchase too, that I bought to add to my XTB Stunticons...

I have given up hopes for a MP Takara Jazz. By the time they make it and the way the MP line is going - I probably won't be a fan of it. Are folks here happy with their Maketoys Jazz, because I am looking for an alternative?

Downbeat is great. He has some flaws (IMO, alt mode, especially from behind, is a bit odd, and the collapsible/telescoping rear fenders are a bit odd), but otherwise, he's a solid MP Jazz. That said, if you want the hyperarticulated MPs of MP Sunstreaker onwards, that he is not. As good as the Datsun bros, if not just a bit better. The accessories are plenty and detailed.

Any other MP scaled Jazz that is as good in quality/price or better than MT Downbeat will more than likely come from another 3P company and not Takara.

I think MT aren't coming back no. I believe Endgame didn't sell well either, or did he?

Hard to tell how many of them sold via retail and how many of them fell off the back of that truck... lol. So long as they get enough pre-order interest from the retailers, they can continue producing.

I was planning on picking up an official when/if it came out, but those things are so fragile and always have some kind of QC issue or breakpoint. Fortunately, Downbeat is awesome and work great for an MP.

Downbeat's engineering simplicity is the design's strong point. It's very similar to the MP Datsuns, in many ways. If you accept that weapons and launchers can be partsformed (where could Jazz stuff that rifle, anyway?), then it makes life a bit easier with a carbot sized MP figure. The "double torso" designs of V3 OP, Sunstreaker, and Bee V2 all force the compromises in simplicity, and perhaps they also force the use of less resilient construction and paint methods.

Agreed. I sold Sunstreaker after having it a few months and decided to get out of the Takara MP game. It's cool that the designs look so accurate, but I can't bring myself to drop $150 on a figure that I can't transform without breaking.

I feel that at some point the Takara MP bubble will soon burst.
Their "+" line of toon repaints of Hasui-era MPs would be the only things I would even consider buying from TT seing as how those are their only releases that are somewhat reasonable priced but even those are having QC issues, especially when it comes to the paint.
I've noticed that one of the biggest pro-Takara MP/anti-3P/anti Takara KO diehards (to the point that he would bully others that don't share his opinions) on TFW2005 is even putting up his Takara MPs for sale, including his prized MP-19+. Go figure (no pun intended).

Yeah, I got Shockwave+ and he looks nice but is not worth the price. I keep thinking how I could have gotten a FT Dinobot for the price of this figure that feels like folded cardboard.

Then I got the Soundwave re-release and the paint on the face was all screwed up, the legs feel like they’re gonna snap off and he’s got scratchy markings all over in the plastic.

I still like the look of the modern Takara stuff but the doubled price and terrible quality have me holding back. I ordered one of the semi KO ‘factory reject’ Bumblebees And I’ll get Smokescreen cause he’s reasonably priced but I’ll wait and see for Hound and any other new releases. It’s not a good trajectory.
