I agree with you. Listings don't mean nothing. I actually like Maketoys' figures more than FansToys', but the Coneheads appeared ready to go and then Maketoys suddenly disappeared after releasing Dirge, and now that mold just looks dated. I really want this figure, but the QC better be top notch.

 

Then you are totally missing the Maketoys marketing strategy. They are selling us the “Nostalgia for Nostalgia”.

By dusting off these old designs, they are bringing us back to a time when 3rd party was exploding and every week was a new set of silhouettes. It explains why they jumped backwards into CHUG with the CD line when everyone was going G1 MP.

I haven’t decided if I want to fully flesh out the later seasons … and for the right price, I’d let someone else catch up on the set.

My pride and joy has been my complete G1 collection and I’ve been displaying them side by side with MPs… There’s also the fact that FT will probably get to them in a million years too so I can wait for that if I have to…

but looking at the shelf, I’m excited to see the other 2 see the light of day!

 

Hadn't MT mostly disappeared before they released Dirge? I might be remembering wrong, but I think I was surprised when Dirge actually released.

 

Those were the days. Days in which you looked forward not only to seeing these characters get made, but looked forward to see what take a company was going to do on a character. It was a field wide open for exploration.

 

Bit of an evolution here. Those hands are very non-maketoys hands.

 

The MakeToys coneheads are a definite "maybe" for me at this point. I like my Dirge/Endgame, but the other two pre-orders look a bit iffy for my personal collection. Maybe if they have some better renders they could lure me back.

But I love my first two Headmasters and will PO the final two MakeToys Highbrow/Brainstorm figures as each becomes available.

 

I'm waiting until the weekend to see if Show Z will update their store, despite CNY! I already cancelled my TFS pre-order due to their higher price after TCP announced their's

 

I am like Robogeek. I'm out. If they had shown a completed Wiseblast for release at the same time, I would have relented. I may pickup a preorder. I just don't trust this company past Ramjet and Thrust. Quality on Dirge was an issue. The bigger problem is we now know FT is in this space and that FT Chromedome is superior to MT in sculpt. I think now that this has happened you will see some reveals and renders of the others from FT. MT waited too long. The figure looks very nice but MT STILL has not given me the ability to complete my Autobot headmasters. You don't do this tease without including Wiseblast because of the expectations. I am also still bitter about Contact Shot KNOWING there will be no Crosshairs or Sureshot after Crosshairs was canceled. If MT would have come with this, Wiseblast, and renders for Crosshairs and Sureshot I would have been all over this announcement. It would have been the proper way to conclude MT's REMaster line and then have some faith in them if they want to continue in the future. I see this STILL as trying to recoup sunk costs in molds. I don't see any clear signs the company has a future or is really alive beyond emergency funding to mitigate massive losses.

 

The one part I can directly counter is there is no way this is an attempt to recoup sunk costs in molds, assuming the figure looks like the new render. It simply does not look like the old prototype, so if they had molds for it they are completely lost money at this point.

People don't want nostalgia, that's why Monsieur Draper didn't end up with the Kodak account if memory serves. What people want is something akin to Lucky Strike: It's toasted, and dalianjj was able to capture the real magic with the following line ... Fans Toys : It's Diecast  

 

I wasn't as specific in my point as I should have and used that as a catchall. Design and prototyping costs. There is some possibility that some parts may have been molded/remolded and not complete or initial funds invested. We have no way of knowing too if the prototype we saw was the LAST prototype developed. Rather than spell out all of that or just say recoup initial investment, I put it that way. The speed of this after almost no communication appears that Ramjet, Thrust, and Highbrow were incredibly close to completion. It also explains why no news on Wiseblast as if it has been abandoned. The way MT shut down appeared very curious to me like it happened very suddenly especially with the way they slowed down. Looking at the completed Ramjet and Thrust now adds to this for me. It appears to me that they quickly had some bad luck and things got shut down rather than some orderly resolution to the business, ie cashflow and not wanting to continue bailing water. The crowdfunding, etc. it seemed to me like they had several oars in the water and lost out on things they counted on working out.

MT knows how badly their brand has been damaged and they have now floated 3 completed figures but have offered NOTHING on Wiseblast. That's not an accident.

 

It's real, I couldn't believe it at first, but after biting my tongue hard I got the answer. I can rest in peace, finally they will come, this is wild.

Yep, it will probably be an rendering image of FT Chromedome accompanied by the silhouette of BrainStorm and HighBrow cartoon models.

 

That's my immediate thought too. Excited to see this isn't dead as Highbrow was always my fave Autobot Headmaster but not sure I'm in from the start. My collection has moved on aesthetically from MT's styling.

 

I think I'm gonna pass.

A few years ago, I would have been all over this but now I know that at some point, someone will make one that looks exactly like the cartoon so I think I'm gonna wait.

Nice to see MakeToys back in the game though.

 

Pre-ordered through Omegalock for £115. It says it's expected in June so I can't wait for the next six months to pass.

Ok, after putting these side by side it's a comepletly 100% new mold. Maketoys must have found a new designer. Makes me wonder where the new guy came from and where the old guy went to.
