Ok, people were asking me how I made my Unicron planet stands to make a tutorial. Well, I don't need any more planet stands but I can show some before and after pics. It is easy enough to "get away with it" that way. I bought it at walmart for $13. It is made by Mainstays.

Here are my 2 Uni planet stands next to the original papertowl holder. Yes, you basically stick a papertowl holder up Unicron's ass.

You will be turning this papertowl holder on the left into the final stand on the right.

Here are the tools you need. You will also need a cutting tool. I used a angle grinder but lots of other tools can be used. SawsAll, jigsaw, oscillating tool, etc. Also, you need sandpaper if you plane on painting it.

You need the knife to cut off the rubber/plastic center of the PT holder. It is a bit of a bitch to do, but take your time so you don't scrap up the stand, especially of you don't plan on painting it. You loosen up the pole in the center by the end of cutting off the rubber. If so, you can tighten it back up with a socket set or pliers.

Next, figure how tall you want the stand and cut it accordingly with the angle grinder. You will have to clean up the sharp edges with sandpaper when done.

I used the hanger as the shaft that goes into Unicron's butt. I cut it 1/2" longer then the center pole. This way, when it is in the pole and epoxied to it, it stick out the top. This is so the epoxy isn't supporting Unicron's fat ass. The hanger will support the weight and the epoxy will just hold the hanger in place.

Now, I grabbed, stole, absconded some of the hangers from a hotel I was at just for these DIY projects I always do. (don't judge me) You will have to hunt something down that will work for this.

Next after I cut the hanger to size, I use the epoxy to glue it into place, then use the ironic papertowl and stuff it in the pole to keep it in place while the epoxy dries. I would also just leave the PT in there just to make it that much stronger.

Didn't think I would be violating Unicron like this but here you go, Unicron porn. Picture is very self explanatory.

    And last, Unicron from behind.

I know this isn't the best tutorial but I did my best. Feel free to ask any questions and LMK if I missed anything.

Nice! 2 questions, did you actually drill a hole in Unicron or use an existing screw hole? The second question might seem a bit odd, but is the orange the same on the planet "chompers" on the 2 Unicrons? I have the issue where my Takara Unicron has 2 "3 teeth" chompers and was wondering if it would be possible to swap with an Amazon Unicron with "4 teeth".

    Thanks!

There's a hole small enough to put a small metal or wooden rod into.

As stated in my first post, it is a screw hole. I did not make it. It is located on the bottom of Unicron in planet mode. In robot mode, the same hole is on the back of the crotch.

Also, the orange on both is not even close. Sorry man.

thanks for the info, gonna attempt one of these stands, they look nice.

you can probably just use a mini tubing cutter to cut down the metal. I remember making aluminum shaft covers for arcade joysticks with those, out of aluminum 7/11 straws. they're like $5 at home depot.

I'll see if my wallyworld has the papertowel holder today and give the tubing cutter a go. Great affordable idea man, as long as unicron doesn't mind feeling violated.

Ok now I'm just a tad confused about something here. I get that there's a metal rod in center of this paper towel holder. How much epoxy are putting down there, and wouldn't the paper towel you're using just get glued down?

Say I wanted to keep that rubber strip on the on this thing. I kinda like how it's a grip. Could I just pop the top off of this holder and do the mod with out cutting it like you did?

I like this. It looks good. I made one myself using clear and white acrylic rods and gave it four curved legs with feet and two curved supports that cradle the planet parts on each side of his feet., but yours looks a lot nicer.

The bottom of the stand/PT holder has sand in it and it is 2.5lbs after my mod. It is very very stable.

When you unscrew the top of the PT holder, there is a screw sticking out. You can use it for Unicron but it angles him up. Not a good look. Also, the taller the stand, it looks funny and becomes less stable.

There is a plastic piece holding the screw. You could try to rip it out or drill it out.

Also, the paper towel is most definitely glued in there but no one will ever see it and it just makes it stronger.

BTW, Thanks for all the kind words guys.
