Magnum PI Sequel In The Works At ABC ABC is attempting to revive the classic private eye franchise with a new series focusing on Thomas Magnum’s daughter, Lily Magnum. This reboot would see the younger Magnum come to Hawaii to carry on her father’s legacy. It would mix elements of crime, spy-fiction and mystery along with the sunny beaches of the island state. It would feature the original series’ action and episodic format, with an underlying plot of Lily attempting to get to the bottom of a larger mystery that killed her Naval Intelligence career. The proposed series would see ABC joining forces with a creative team including John Rogers, the creator of “Leverage” and “The Librarians,” and Eva Longoria, who would help produce the series on behalf of Universal Television. I hope Tom Selleck gets a cameo.
If it does follow his daughter is still the same continuity, I don't see how he wouldn't be up for reprising.
Since he's the lead on another series, that shoots in New York, on another network. I wouldn't count on more than one appearance. Unless they take the he died interpretation of the series finale.
Just need Selleck to cameo in the pilot to "give his blessing" so to speak. Anything else would just overshadow the lead.
This could be interesting. Even if Selleck can't show up much maybe she could get help occasionally from Uncle Rick or Uncle TC.
I am 100% all in favor of this as long as it continues the same continuity. Magnum is one of my all-time favorite shows, and love the idea of them continuing with a grown Lily as the lead character. It would also kind of be interesting if they could have Sellick as Magnum, but in Colonel Buck Greene's role of Naval Intelligence, maybe even butting heads with his daughter the way Greene did with him. And yeah, having Uncle TC and Uncle Rick would make this series a must-watch for me. I think Hillerman is too old and infirm to play Higgins now, but I agree there needs to be some kind of Higgins-type character. A son or daughter would be ideal, but I don't know what point in his life you could extract one from lol. Both of the "great loves" of his life were busts, and Agatha was too old to have kids even if they got together after the events of the original series. Maybe a kid of one of Higgins' half-brothers? Anyway, I am usually dead set against this kind of thing, but for some reason, with Magnum, I really want this to happen.
If they did the proposed series about Lily, I'd be completely on board. Now that they're talking about a reboot with a recast TM, they can go #&%$ themselves. Go #&%$ themselves right in the @$$. Oh well, at least they won't be ruining the original series.
First Look at Jay Hernandez as Magnum P.I. - Bleeding Cool No mustache? Also cases to difficult to handle? Did they watch the original. Most of the time it was case of the week between Magnum being beach bum, or avoiding responsibilities at robin's nest and finding ways to borrow time at the tennis court when not running off with the Ferrari. Most of the difficult cases in the old series were usually fallout from their previous lives in the military.
So this is our era's Magnum. A bit too urbane and sophisticated IMO. Magnum needs a more military, stern look, since he was in the navy. (But not too stern, he's a sports dude in Hawaii after all) And Hernandez has major shoes to fill, though I'll try to judge him fairly. Times change. Nowadays cases are tougher and more connected?
