it’s a loose term. For me it pretty much includes anyone not already with a name (lambros*, van bros) but cars. but would it include say, trailbreaker?

As he was part of the Diaclone line yeah Trailbreaker along with Ironhide and Ratchets are carbots. But Brawn, Sunstreaker and Wheeljack are needed from MS to complete the Ark crew. That text from MS that you posted from the lastpage though said 3 carbots so I have to imagine that it was meant to include Skids if it's not Smokescreen.

I'm curious to see how'd they do their Hot Rod and if they'd crib anything from SS 86 considering how good that turned out.

Good question. I considered getting MFT's Hot Rod as a stand-in, but they got the flames on the hood/chest so wrong I can't do it. Would bug the hell out of me. Just are way too short/don't come up far enough. And his color is off - too red.

Even though he's very cheap and fits in pretty close scale-wise, plus overall is a cool figure with nice accessories, just not for me.

I'm sure MS' will be a lot better.

Cyclonus as well, but super outdated.

Try looking for papa toys hotrod. A great representation if you can find him. Hes been out for a while but still the best HR around with the perfect magenta color. The wait for NA or MS to tackle the character is most likely years..

MFT released a repaint with the correct colors.

The only time I'm dipping outside MS is when their version is so outdated or bad like with Cyclonus, Blaster, Seaspray, Beachcomber, etc. The only MS 2.0 I'm aware of is Optimus, so it doesn't seem like making an improved version of a previous character they've done is something they are concerned with. I guess technically Ultra Magnus got one with the upgrade kit. They won't even re-issue Skywarp with his correct, purple colored blasters.

It's an easy call to get NA Cyclonus, Seaspray, Beachcomber, etc, in those cases. As it's extremely unlikely a MS 2.0 is coming anytime in the foreseeable future.

I'm fine with waiting as long as it takes for a proper Hot Rod, though.
Definitely colored better. Still has the flames way wrong.

It also bugs me that the spoiler sits too low on his back.

I mean, I thought the term was always referring to the old toyline groups- so in 1984 you had the Autobot Mini-Cars (Brawn, Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Gears, Huffer, Windcharger), the Autobot Cars (Bluestreak, Hound, Ironhide, Jazz, Mirage, Prowl, Ratchet, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Traibreaker, Wheeljack), and Autobot Commander (Optimus Prime). So to me, the term Carbot referred to figures from the "Autobot Cars" line, and figures from the "Mini-Cars" line (which switched to "Mini-Vehicles" in 1985 since they had lots of non-cars like Powerglide, Seaspray, Warpath, and Cosmos) as Minibots.

Particularly since the minibots are a different design aesthetic. While companies have been making minibots with alt-modes that more closely resemble the alt mode they're supposed to be instead of a chibi version (XTB Cliffjumper and Windcharger) their bot modes still have that minibot proportion. So yeah, take Trailbreaker and Brawn for example. They're both SUVs (before a pedant replies "well, actually, Trailbreaker is a Hi Lux Camper, so that's really a Pickup!", I know, but its close enough), but if trying to make figures that closely resemble the old toys, in alt mode Trailbreaker should be more realistic looking, and Brawn a little more squat. So while you define carbot differently, I'm pretty sure this is what the companies follow.

Assuming we get some combination of 3 this year from: Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, Brawn, or Smokescreen (sure, Skids is possible, just feel like the others are more likely). Gonna add Kup to my next year wish list with Tracks and Hot Rod. On the con side for next year, don't really care too much so long as Galvatron is one of them. With only the Insecticons and Astrotrain + Blitzwing left from s1 & s2, Galvy has a reasonable shot at next year.

If they ever reissue a Prowl that is actually white instead of dirty-tan and pre-yellowed like the original release, I’d have to buy it even though I do have the original.

A reissue would be nice since I missed out on these, any word about it?
