2.0 is a beast.

I really prefer MS Voice Ripple. I just can't get over Scaramanga's thick lower legs, derpy face sculpt and proportions in general. I also like the aesthetics of the MS tapes better. To each their own of course.

MFT are os MS, they alter some details of the MS bots, but are also larger. Some will scale with MS bots, but others are too large.

 

I would also reccomend MFT Ultra Magnus 2.0. The design is the same as MS but adds an improved face, and can store the matrix. He's an OS KO, but i feel he still scales nicely with MS. He's less fiddly than the versions that armor up a base Prime toy.

 

Scaramanga isn't bad but Voice Ripple is the perfect Soundwave! He was in stock at TFS Express but in metallic and it looks great but I want the original one and while I was looking around for one it was bought and now out of stock! I think I should have jumped on it! As long as MFTs aren't too big then I think they are a better deal, for me. They tend to be cheaper and I'm going into starting legends specifically getting the flat matte plastic finishes for the closer to toon look. Like with Megatron I keep looking at both but preferring the unpainted! For once my preference will save me money! I can see myself getting carried away like with MP and eventually buying multiples of the same character in different finishes, it just always ends up being the way!

The Ultra Magnus thing is already driving me nuts cuz I cant choose what to get. I do keep coming back to MS' armor for B18 but right now my only options that aren't expensive for a B18 is the gray sleep mode or for a few bucks more the gold one with trailer, gross! But then I could paint it, but then I'd have to paint it! But it would be more Prime for the money! Decisions decisions. I will take a look at MFT 2.0. What about Papa toys version? I briefly looked at it and it's close to the MS B18 armor look but I think the alt mode looks off and cheap.

 

The original flat colored Voice Ripple is considered one of the holy grails to MS collectors, i.e. almost impossible to get nowadays. If you're lucky to find one, it will be very expensive. Keep in mind MFT didn't copy all of the MS bots (yet).
IMO flat colored MS bots are the way to go for g1 toon legend collections. If you like bots über metallic painted, NA has very nice paint jobs, but bot designs are very different compared to MS (smaller, almost teen/chibi like imo)

MS Ultra Magnus armor is cool for what it is, but finding the white V1 Prime bot is also becoming more difficult these days. You could always try using the regular colored V1 Prime.
Also keep in mind armor Magnus' articulation isn't as good as V1 Prime himself, because of the armor 'plating'.

 

I really really really really wish MS would reissue the original voice ripple. It came out before I got into Legends and I missed out. I got the metallic version and it's great, but boy do I want the original. Impossible to find.

You can find the original voice ripple - just without the tapes. Hell, I’d sell mine without the tapes. I have the metallic version and I use that, it’s MUCH better than the washed out blue of the original imo. It’s the tapes that make the original ripple so desirable.

 

Yeah him and the seekers and really all the Decepticons that NA has available imo beat the MS versions. Megatron was the only one that could have gone either way, I only went with NA for consistency. The autobots on the other hand are MS all the way, not only do they have a much larger cast i don't like the squat look of the NA carbots. the only exception there is the mini bots, bumblee cliffjumper brawn and beachcomber are still NA.

 

I agree on getting the flat colored Voice Ripple incl Rumble and the Scout tape is almost impossible to find and I agree on the metallic colored Voice Ripple is better (in terms of tightness of joints because of the extra layer of paint), but the flat colored Voice Ripple is still better for g1 toon likeness (no metallic in g1 cartoon, only flat) and you still need it if you're a MS completionist.
The problem really is if you want the right toon color... Flat colored Voice Ripple is a couple of shades lighter, metallic Voice Ripple is almost perfect shade of blue, but metallic.. (not toon accurate). Get both if you can  

 

True both aren’t toon accurate to some degree. But In my mind the darker shade of blue is closer to toon appearance, despite the shininess. Besides, they couldn’t convey shininess in the toon with their limitations. Lol I don’t think paint detracts from toon accuracy, or at least to me the correct color is more important to me. I know some MS fans try to twist lack of paint into a bonus for toon accuracy but I don’t agree. I mean technically the toon was colored with ink, and paint is close to ink in terms of what is is and does. Lol getting off track.

I don’t know why they made that blue on the regular version so light and washed out.

 

MS fans (like myself) are not twisting the lack of paint into a bonus (maybe some are), it's just the fact of toon likeness being flat colored if you compare to the cartoon straight up. I understand if people love metallic shiny paint jobs on their bots, heck I'm really looking forward to Prime V2 metallic and clear windows and I own a couple of metallic MS figures, but if you really want straight up faithful g1 toon bot representations, flat colored is the way to go (doesn't mean metallic isn't good).
I like my bots like they've stepped right out of the tv screen, and yes, I also wonder why flat Voice Ripple isn't a couple of shades darker  

 

Dude this thing is way too big for ms. I have the mft, if he wants mine, it has no place in my MS/NA stuff. Went back to MS UM, who’s face sculpt I actually prefer.

 

I still prefer unpainted plastic. Cheaper and far more durable than painted figures. And to me, looks just as good.

I'm just providing options for MV Steve since he was looking at the UM 2.0, which is about the same size as the MFT UM 2.0 but less fiddly with the armor pieces.

Wait for MST to announce a reissue that is more animation accurate from feedback.

I believe MST has a limited color palette due to their plastic. For Soundwave, it works for me cos I prefer him to be lighter than darker. Darker is usually too close to black for me.

 

@MV Steve this OP 2.0 will be your best bet for prime. (I'm waiting for a clear windows version). The papa toys ultra mag has lesser details and 2x OS so it's much bigger, I use MFT UM with Magic Square.

@Huub not sure if you were on the boards at the time but when the original color Ms Soundwave came out, ppl were mad the blue didn't look right and were complaining non stop about it.

 

If MS is going to release a correct toon colored flat Voice Ripple, it's going to be a instant pre order for me.

I wasn't around at that time, but I can imagine the drama going on because of the color  

 

We're not seeing the fixed trailer version this month are we.  

 

Two weeks after getting an invoice for the Nemesis version from Show.Z I finally got the shipping notice. Very excited to get this guy. I have the 1.0 version, and while it was good, I feel like in the past year the legend figures have elevated to a entire new level of awesome.

 

I'll have to see some pics next to OP and Megatron. I saw the original next to Prime and hes the same height, that doesn't work for me. Ultra Magnus should be bigger than Prime but not too big.

Is there a clear window version in the works? I went back and checked it out the PPT Magnus more and I agree so it's not an option for me anymore
