as they are making an mp prime they should do an mp magnus too with these proportions and articulation !! this was how i sort of envisioned the official one looking like ( obviously better detailed and facesculpt being an mp ) i was shocked when it didn't look like this proportion wise , i do love my mp magnus now but would be all over a better one

Cool to hear there's a little chrome (just hope it's durable)! I'm not really a fan of the dull, matte plastic MST uses -- lookswise, I should say; strength and durability-wise, which is probably the reason they use it, it's top notch. I realize that to some eyes it might resemble the soft, animation cell coloring of the cartoon, but when it comes to Lambros, say, I'd prefer to see some glossy, deep red sexiness! So a little bit of sparkle and pop on Magnus is a welcome sight to me.

And since this wouldn't be FredVIII MST post without a head sculpt comment . . .

I've realized one of the things that's been bothering a little me about this Magnus headsculpt. There are a couple things actually, but I think this is the main one that makes it look a little off to me: the top portion of the helmet is too narrow. On the MST version the top portion of the helmet fits, width-wise, completely between the two antennae, with even a little space to spare on each side. But in the animation, that portion of Magnus's helmet was clearly wider than that:

So I would have preferred MST's Magnus to look a little more like the quick & dirty mockup on the left below.

Still, I'm looking forward to this figure a whole lot.

I'm looking forward to this too. I think UM is 11.9 cm UM is 14.5 cm tall, so he'll have a little bit of height on him.

That picture of toon magnus is at a close up wide perspective where the toy picture is a long focal length perspective making it flat. There are probably a few more things i'd liike changed about the head sculpt.

Couple of main things imo is the face is too deep set and maybe too gaunt looking.

I am not buying this magnus because of scale. I did think his proportion were off from being great(imo) but do think he might be better in hand, the whacky poses and perspectives in some mst photos make their bots look spindly limbed where they might not in hand. Sideswipe is pretty damn good inhand just that tiny fugly head..

Sure, but I choose that picture only to illustrates the way the upper portion of UM's helmet extends all the way out to his antennae. That's clearly not the case on the MST version (where there's a visible gap), and to my eye, that contributes to making his head look too narrow. YMMV, of course.

Mmm, back is a bit unfortunate.

But that's nitpicking because this guy is fan flippin' tastic.

This has a much cleaner look than the Papa Toys version but I prefer a Large Magnus. The Papa version bugs me, feet looks too flat

Awesome news! Among other things, 14.5 leaves more than enough room for a decent-sized Optimus (something we chatted about in another thread).

And gosh, minor nitpicks (very minor) aside, this dude is so awesome looking.

Heck yes it does. I also love how long the alt is. It's like a good 5cm more than Inferno & Grapple.

Oh I didn't know this guy came with a matrix. Not a deal breaker if there wasn't one but it is pretty nifty.

Probably after Red Alert. Glad for this update; didn't believe we'd see anything until the end of October.

i think they will be pushing their figures till xmas, as IF has once again proven to 'calculate' when not to step competitor shoes (or be stepped on) and delayed many products I would have expected in september and october (as it has historically been a release period for IF - since IF overlord)

The following might be from spending the most time with Magnus in IDW Phase 2, but I feel like Magnus should be shouting or aghast. Hardly a deal breaker, but just my feeling.

I agree, but I’d ideally have the cap be wider but with the same brim height, while the cartouche would increase in height like in your quick mock-up, or maybe a little bit shorter. Still, I don’t think it’s too likely that that changes, but we shall see.
