how did they come up with the name for this guy? did they just throw a pan against the wall and went with whatever sound they heard?

 

Brobdingnag is a fictional land, which is occupied by giants, in Jonathan Swift's 1726 satirical novel Gulliver's Travels. The story's main character, Lemuel Gulliver, visits the land after the ship on which he is travelling is blown off course.

 

Brobdingnag isn't the name of this armor, that's the name seen on a lot of the Magic Square packaging. As @Creedog says, its from Gulliver's travels. But yeah, the little kid on all the Magic Square packaging is the alien kid Aron from the G1 episode "Child's Play", where his planet is populated by giants who make the Autobots and Decepticons look toy sized, much like Gulliver's Travels. The planet is never named in the original ep, but was named a couple of decades later in the All Spark Almanac as Brobdingnag after Gulliver's Travels.

 

He looks good. Great even. But I have a lot of Legends UM. I'd really like to see someone try to tackle a new MP scale Magnus since it's pretty shameful these legends kill the MP magnus we already have in terms of articulation.

 

I'm a bit torn. I like the robot mode and I like 90% of the vehicle mode but... I'm not crazy on the new parts and they look like they're needed to turn him into the truck mode.

 

I commented the other day that I really don't like the extreme partsforming (I could maybe get used to the million armor pieces but taking pieces off the core bot is too much). But following this thread, it occurred to me that this could be a great figure for a custom battle damaged Magnus. Cut away chunks of the armor and paint in some scorch marks and such and have the core bot showing underneath. Chopping the Magnus and white Prime heads together in particular would be pretty sick looking.

I know, it's a mind blogging that after all these years, there is still no 3P MP G1 UM in existing. I see a bunch of 3P MP G1 Springer, Kup, Arcee, etc, unless MP22 is that magnificent! In my eyes, excluding the stupid butt flap, MP22 is absolutely gorgeous. But, wouldn't hurt to see more options especially if it's the armor version.

As for MS UM v2, every time I see the alt.mode pic, I kept thinking it needs the red bumper damn it, lol. Robot mode is absolutely beautiful...don't know, if NA UM can top that looks.
