Well, considering that they've just milked the Megatron mold with two new repaints in the last year, I'd say there's actually a pretty good chance of them doing a new version since that's what they did with Optimus.

After being sacrificed to the mail gods my replacement EX02 has arrived! Good timing too as I was applying decal work to some other figures when it came.








And after a quick checkup it looks like I was fortunate in the QC department. Fingers continued to be crossed though from here on.

 

Do the chest windows come out of this figure?

 

Like as in are they meant to, no. But if you want to remove them, there is a pressed in filler panel that easily comes off and they used two tiny drops of glue on some pegs which easily pop out regardless of the glue, at least on mine. Once the glue is broken the filler panel is enough to hold them in place so they can be removable.

I got my MS-02EX in today. The box looked like it had a pretty rough journey, but he was perfectly fine in his plastic clam shell.

First impressions, w/o transforming:

-The hip ratchets are ridiculous. Feeling how stiff they felt, I disassembled him preemptively and sanded off the tips of the ratchet pieces. It would definitely have stripped the little gears inside.

-I had some of the red paint on his thighs, which seems obligatory at this point. Q-tip with a touch of rubbing alcohol took it all right off cleanly.

-He'd look better with the yellow filled in on the forearms.

-His left leg flops a lil bit, tightening the screw didn't really resolve it. But it's completely manageable, I don't pose Prime doing high kicks.

-The arm swivels aren't as scary as I thought they'd be. Just gotta overcome that initial set paint feeling.

-Oddly, the arm swivels seem like they're limited in movement because of the smoke stacks, unless I'm just missing something. It doesn't feel like the stacks hinge out or anything.

-The stacks have a very noticeable sprue nub on the actual extendable stack. MS-01 stacks look better IMO. They could and should have just used that same exact part. I'd like to see someone make replacements in diecast for these.

-His hands feel really good.

-He's slightly heavier then my MS-01, with most the weight in the legs. 412g vs 400g respectively.

-He feels fine, I've heard much about how hollow he feels and such. So far, I don't feel like that. He just feels different

-He has a nice deep red finish, and I like it. There'ssome slight differences in the color, most noticeable around the panels on top of the chest.

-He looks freaking fantastic beside the original matte finished MS-01, they look brilliant as a pair, and I love em both together.

-The head out of the box looks great, I'm not changing it.

-Can we all agree now - between this, OP Leader, and MP44 - that White Prime Thighs save Display Lives? Let's never go back to gray, m'kay?

 

Yeah, white is definitely a step or two up from grey, but silver is a step up from white and chrome is even better (though I'd want chrome to be limited to a toy version).

 

Do you meant the bicep swivel? The biceps don't touch the stacks at all when turning. Mine are incredibly tight, the tightest joints on the whole figure by a fair margin, but they do turn 360° and don't bump into anything

 

I hope hope hope they do an MP of Jazz!!!!

I think a MP of their Ironhide, megatron or one of their combiners would sell better.

 

I had Maketoys Downbeat and I think he still looks good today. I dunno if Magic Square is keen on going too far into MP territory besides obvious sellers like Prime. Maybe Megatron I hope?

 

Looking for a little help: I need to sticker this guy up. I normally use Ocean Metallic Dry Transfers with a clear background (non-toon style) for my figures. Obviously I need a larger white outline decal for this. Any advice on which dry transfers to use? What do people recommend? There are a lot of options out there.
