My thought as well after looking at it a couple minutes:lol

Gonna be stripping it all off and retrying with masking tape. I sure am glad now that the whole thing isn't painted so removing the lines should be relatively easy

I think for what you’re attempting, you may want to try to use Copic Multiliner ink pens. They work great for the undertaking & were what I used on my Prime

Cel shading needs to be planned carefully, you need to understand how the shadowing and shading will work and shape the areas, less is usually more and if you do it right people will often mistake it for natural shadows. Straight black is usually not recommended.

I shouldn’t really my first attempts at customs where disasters ! All a learning curve , Yeah masking for some areas but maybe try something with a finer tip? And try not to go over what you have done too many times…. Also before you try anything new to you when customising a figure practice on something really cheap first

My Gundam fine tip marker works well for the grooves. Where I'm facing problems is tracing the convex edges, where I can't just sit the point of the pen and pull it along the ridge. Those are the parts I'll need to mask with tape, then paint, to get a crisp line along the outer edges

I'm not going for cell shaded, I'm going for black outline to replicate the drawn toon look

Thanks for the tip. I'm definitely a novice, but I was in a bit of a manic phase and went at it with my black Gundam marker

That's called cell shading, making it look like the cartoon

My smokestack replacement part has finally arrived, now to wait for my pin puncher. But I'm a little confused. Do I replace the entire smokestack or just the tip of the smokestack? Because it's the tip of the smokestack that's broken on my figure. 16692918245876163223415896050290.jpg

The pin punch broke when i tried. Ended up using a centerpunch to knock the pin out.

wait ... is a pin punch needed to fix this? If so, MS should provide those.

It's kind of a mess. They're giving replacement stacks but the old stack can't be removed without breaking it off, because it's pinned in without an exit hole. You can however replace the pipe of the stack by pushing out the pin holding the cap onto the bottom of the stack, but it's really risky to do with a pin punch and should be done with a pin vice instead.

My stacks weren't broken thankfully but I used this to swap the pipes so the sprue mark faced backwards: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H5F43N3?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details . You have to do some careful angling to drive the pin from one particular side though, because you can't get the vice straight with the hole without folding the stack hinge out a little.

Cel shading is the shading on that figure. I don't want that shading, because most of G1 did not have that shading. I just want the black outlines which, in and of itself, is not cel shading
