Love the silver! Looks factory. Did you disassemble and airbrush the parts individually, or tape and mask and paint in place?

Such fantastic, clear pics! Mine never look this good. Always looks like I took them during a bad fall down the stairs.

    @John TheDestroyer

Used a scriber around the eyes and where his face meets his mask. Then I used a panel liner to fill in the lines. Now it looks like his eyes are a seperate piece!

This was the murder weapon looking scriber I used

That looks fantastic, thanks for trying it out. Definitely gonna try with mine too. I've got a shiny blue Gundam marker and masking tape on standby for after I carve a few trenches around his eyes

Did you file down the insides of the head? The “after” photo seems to have a little tighter fit for the helmet around the face…

They're the same as they were before painting because I don't paint the joints on figures unless they'd be an obvious eyesore. I mostly use Tamiya or Testors lacquer sprays (occasionally automotive lacquer sprays from dealerships) and they're quite durable. At least in regards to handling and posing figures; I seldom transform my robots.

Thank you. I don't have an airbrush setup but I'm thinking about taking the plunge... maybe one of these days lol. Prime was disassembled, the parts were given a bath in isopropyl, then painted with Tamiya and Testors hobby sprays. The crotch and thighs were shot with Tamiya Silver Leaf.

Never considered real life car accuracy. Guess that's what I get for not owning a car, using public transportation, and rarely ever looking at or thinking about real life cars. I do remember hating the glare on most cars back when I used to drive though. Matte on cars would be so much more practical, but I digress.

But what about semi trucks, are those glossy too? Honest question, can't remember the last time I looked closely at one.

Most cars, trucks and Motorcycles are glossy. most instances of matte cars are when its a custom paint job or from a long time ago when they didn't have glossy paint to use.

No filing down whatsoever, all i did was chuck the front half of the helmet into boiling water, squeezed it in tighter and voila, it fits better than before!

I'm not 100% decided yet, but I think I'm gonna have the bicep rotated so that the joint is facing inwards. Makes the arm look a bit better to not have that joint visible and it makes sure the joint in the forearm is the one that's bending, which I think looks better as well.

I don't think you benefit from the full elbow bend that way though.

The single elbow joint has a pretty good bend still, but it is true that using both joints is better.

But hey, if I need the extra bend for a pose I can always just turn the bicep back around.

There was no “long time ago” when cars didn’t have glossy paint. Before basecoat-clearcoat systems there were acrylics, further back are lacquers, and Model As wore paint made from linseed oil resin. All are high-gloss.

Matte finishes on cars is a relatively new thing, and it’s hell for maintenance. You can’t wax it or otherwise seal it, you can’t buff out scratches, and it readily attracts and retains dirt. It’s a niche practice because it’s an impractical pain in the ass.

The matte/semigloss finish on Transformers cars is only done to further the cartoon aesthetic. Most humanoid cartoon figures and statues have a matte finish (people are only glossy when soaking wet), so it’s an accepted “cartoon thing” for the TFs to be likewise, even if they transform into cars that would be glossy in real life.

These Jojo poses I tried look dumb but they're pretty much impossible to pull off with any other MP Optimus lol.
