I'm VERY tempted, but I'm not sure I want to end up spending nearly $500 to get the prefect *legends class* Devastator. But man, it would look sooooo good.

 

So does that cartoon guy come with him?

I am still wondering why they decided to include that hologram with the G2 version.

 

Just ordered from ShowZ. What finally got me to pull the trigger was, believe it or not, the black treads on Bonecrusher. The mismatch on the G1 always bothered me a little. So now I finally have somebody for my MS Autobots to fight.

 

Probably because they are doing the G2 version as a boxed set, and the hologram would be too big to fit into one of the G1 boxes (while it could fit into the bigger G2-boxed-set box).

My copy of G2 Devastator came in yesterday. The box is huge! By far the largest Legends scale box I’ve gotten yet. I’ll post more photos and thoughts later but I wanted to share a comparison of the purples first:

 

I ve also ordered MS devastator ,in combiner mode is a beast   but still consider my NA version amazing for bringing all bots funny proportions of 80 series.
I wanted to buy g2 until few weeks ago , also to save money but at the end his face in later pics has changed to metallic ,was unexpected so I chose old g1 to keep toon spirit. Is still a good boxset but has missing details that render him more distant from my tv memories for the silver on head and legs  

 

Yes, pls do share. It is my next priority purchase (after NA EX Jetfire) as soon as my toy sale finalizes in the next day or so hopefully.

 

Wow. Side by side the original looks maroon by comparison.  

 

Overall, I am very pleased with the set. The individual bots are all in good condition perhaps even better than my original set, albeit with some flashing. The only major issue I've found is that Longhaul's tab that pegs his legs into his torso is misaligned and does not peg in. However, the combined mode is a different story. Out of the box, both of his knee joints and the main crotch joint were extremely loose. Fortunately, these joints were just screwed in so they were easy to tighten; except the screw for the crotch joint was already stripped and wouldn't move as much as I'd like. In addition, Long Haul and Hook would not stay together without a frustrating amount of effort. I personally never had any of these issues with my green set but realize that they were pretty common complaints (atleast the Longhaul and Hook connection issues). Regardless, I was eventually able to get Devastator in place and I love the new color scheme. The metallic silver and black accents really stand out (especially on the individual bot faces) and the new purple is fantastic. To further differentiate the G1 and G2, I'll leave the OX parts on for the G2 as I really like the look of the silver thighs. Its really hard to choose which one I prefer but this new set is definitely one of my favorite purchases of the year.

Thanks very much for the review and pics sharing.

Pls look at your comparison pictures of Devastator, focusing at the face difference getween the new silver painted G2’s vs the flat dark grey of toon, for combined, and also individual bot mode. Does it look look like the silver face of at least the combined mode face seems “sucked-in” between the nose and lower chin area around the mouth, as compared to the dark grey of the toon. And the same concept for some of the bot members, such as mixmaster for example?

Yes, the purple and black threads of the arms seem nicer on the G2’s, but the realization that the combined mode face is now silver instead of the beautiful flat grey for the face area has me in pause mode... it makes me regret getting the A version Hound instead of original, as it does have the “sucked in” look around the mouth area, which does bother me.

Is the combined mode’s face removable, and face can separate from the eyes /black parts, so that one can remove the silver and try to paint dark grey like the toon version, if not happy in person.

Agree,looking at pics, vehicle mode and Devastator in yellow are very good but silver on faces render them different for something and I regret that didn t keep yellow thighs.
If they had keep first promotion pics I d have bought yellow boxset, g2 still remains good and a different approcci js just that I d prefer they stick with toon style.

I think the way the silver reflects light really distorts it’s appearance, and the larger the surface area, the worse it might look, especially through a camera. I can definitely tell what you mean through the pictures but in hand, I think it is not as noticeable. I also find the effect is less apparent on the individual Constructicons.




Devastator’s entire face can be removed but the eyes and face can not be separated. Here’s a photo with the original grey applied to G2 Devastator.

 

this is the same effect of the silver and the non-silver faces for hound. the added shiny silver paint draws out much more details and contrast, for better or worse. when i get this g2 yellow devy in hand, i will prob swap over the original grey combiner face from the first.
