Sorry I wasn't sure where to post this. But I bought a MISB Takara Hot Rod off of Ebay and this one says made in China. My ex-b/f said it's fake because Takara is in Japan. So it should be made in Japan. But then I looked at all my MISB Hasbro toys and they all say Hasbro and Takara copyrighted made in China. And all other toys I have from Japan say Made in China. So is this Hot Rod a knock off?

Modern Takara toys are for the most part made in China - including Hot Rod.

Well if it is a re-issue he has to take it back because that is false advertisement, I already emailed the guy and threatened to tell ebay. The bad part is I left him positive feedback b/c it looks great until you take a closer look :(

if thats the box, complete with the gold sticker, it's a re-issue.

if it doesnt have that sticker, but looks like that box, its legit.

also, re-issues sit in plastic trays. originals are in a bubble glued to a card in the package, or in styrofoam.

takara re-issues that are in classic style boxes are also identified by the fact that they have takara's web address printed on the box.

yup that is it. Thanks though at least it isn't a knock off. Though I should make him give me some of my money back.

Is there still a link to the auction on eBay? I only ask because I'd like to see if the auction implies its a 80's G1 original, or if it says anywhere that its the Takara reissue.

It doesn't say it's a reissue, but it doesn't claim to not be a reissue either, just that it is not the US reissiue.

I have a bunch of Saint Seiya model kits that happen to be re-issues. And the copyrights state copyrighted 1986 or 1989.
So yeah. Most re-issue items will have the original copyright as well.
By the way, does anyone know where I find a bootleg Rodimus Prime? I haven't found any bootlegs of him.
I'm too much of a coward to take apart a g1 vintage or re-issue of such a good quality toy.
Sorry that I added something irrelevant. Just wanted to make a quick post rather than a new thread.

Heh. Even though G1 Rodimus had sucky articulation, he still has some good quality die-cast metal on him.
