Remember when they wanted to make an Aunt May movie? Combine them. Aunt May becomes Madame Web. At least Marisa Tomei isn't 90 like the comics make Madame Web look. LOL The way they drew Madame Web in those pics above looks about the same way they draw Aunt May in some issues. LOL Watch my comic knowledge be pretty weak and she is Aunt May in the comics.
Making a movie about a character nobody knows shit about is not really a sin in a day and age where Guardians of the Galaxy broke the ceiling on how you can literally do anything in a movie as long as you do it good and with good characters. I’m someone who enjoyed 2016 Ghostbusters, but I don’t really trust Pascal, and I gotta literally wait until word of mouth for me to see something from this attempt at a Sonyverse.

Is she still young-ish in the current continuity, though? Madame Web was Julia Carpenter during the comic Spider-Verse arc, IIRC.
Depends on which Madam Web, the one most people know was a blind old lady who couldn't be removed from her life support system. Something the Juggernaut found out the hard way when he tried to kidnap her. (That would be a great arc to adapt from the comics) Spidey would save her and go after Juggernaut But she would die years later and Julia Carpenter the 2nd Spider-woman would get her powers Knowing Sony it will likely be a new one with origins mixed between the two of them.
Or maybe a Shazam! or Dr. Strange sort of scenario, where the MC is Julia Carpenter, but she gets "mentored" by the elderly incarnation of Madame Web, before something happens that transfers the power/responsibility to the younger.
Wonder why Tom Rothman is ok with all this shit. He has openly stated he hates comic book projects. He’s one of the reasons why Origins: Wolverine and Fantastic Four 2015 turned out like shit, as well as cutting the budget for Deadpool 1. And the stunt he pulled after Far From Home made a billion. Oh right, rich white guy failing upwards and no one to stop him or Avi Arad.
This is Amy Pascal more than Rothman. Rothman doesn’t care anymore as long as the movie makes money. If it bombs you can expect Rothman will limit all movies that don’t star spider-man
