A Madam Web film makes no sense to me unless it would involve the Spider-Women.
Hopefully with the make-up between Marvel/Disney and Sony, Kevin Feige will be able to make sense of Sony's farcical plans for a shared universe.
I REALLY hope.
Sony are gonna make that Aunt May movie aren't they
I vaguely remember her from the animated series and some comic where Peter fought a drider as some mystical oracle lady who sometimes summons Spidey to give cryptic advice. Not really a character for an action movie.
Maybe this will tie into into the spider verse movie as madame web deals with the spider-men and woman of all universes. Maybe they will bring in the web warriors like spider uk and Spider-Man 2099. Madame web may have other spider-mans in the movie. We could end up with all three spider-mans from the films at once! Also we don't know if this is live action or animated yet do we?
As for her age why does she need to be old? Look at aunt may in homecoming. Sony can make her as young as they want. They could make her a teen if they want. It's a woman who has been put in charge of all the spider heroes of the multiverse. If she is just starting out that could be really scary to a woman just getting her powers. Plus if they keep her blind that gives her a daredevil like handicap to deal with.
Or they could make it where she has been at this for years and make her a nick fury like hero who gives orders to heroes she grabs for missions like batgirl did in the jla years ago. Mission impossible with Spider-Mans!
In the right hands this could be a good movie. Look at blade. Wizard mag even did a gag making fun of him saying why is this z grade loser getting a movie. Men in black was the same. A good script can make any hero into a good film. Just ask rocket and groot. On the other hand a bad script gives us catwoman and son of the mask.
They might as well. Between Madame Web and Aunt May, Sony can create an entire Old Lady Cinematic Universe (OLCU).
That's not her. And as deep a dive as Madame Web already is, I doubt Sony is planning to build a movie around a character created specifically for Hostess.
How do you know they are making her old? Sony can make her any age they want. Aunt may in homecoming isn't old looking also.
And she's also not Aunt May. People give Homecoming way too much leeway. I thought it was okay when I first watched it, but a couple days ago, I just rewatched the second Toby Maguire movie. I'm sorry, but that's Spider-Man. That's Aunt May. MJ... eh, she's drastically different than the comic character, but oh well. Not as different as "MJ" in the Holland movies. That character acts like a completely new creation. Nothing about her personality is anything like what Stan and Romita created, the good or the bad.
Homecoming is a pile of shit, other than the fact Holland's Spider-Man jokes around more like Spider-Man should. And Mr. Mom's performance is fantastic... but bears no relation to the Vulture. Holland plays an only vaguely Spider-Manish character living in a completely un-Spider-Man world. If you want to say Holland is supposed to be portraying the Ultimate Comics version of Peter, you have maybe half a leg to stand on. But only half. And as real Peter? Forget it.
I feel you underestimate the depths of Sony's incompetence.
Sony: "We have altered the deal. Pray we don't alter it further."
Oh good lord. A dark and gritty Golden Girls reboot...
You know I understood the "Aunt May was a spy" pitch. It followed logically. I could picture what that movie would be like. I didn't like it, but I could picture it.
I can't even imagine what a solo Madame Web movie would be. Like where do you start? How do you crack this story? What story is there?
SPIDER-WOMAN: Sony May Be Interested In Alicia Vikander To Star & Michelle MacLaren To Direct
I hope this is true only because Alicia Vikander is the fuuuuuuucking worst, and she would be perfect to highlight what a ridiculously stupid idea this movie would be.
Make it so, Sony.
The only thing I've seen her in was the new Tomb Raider and I thought she was decent there. Though I suppose that could be a fluke. Though I agree this is a bad idea no matter who they cast in the lead.
The New Spider-Man Universe Madame Web Movie Is One Step Closer To Moving Forward
Only way this works is if Marvel let them borrow Juggernaught and Spidey is in it as well. Other than that it's likely doomed.
That's spider-woman! Does sony have spider-woman's rights?
For the most part. But Spider-Woman (or at least the Jessica Drew incarnation) is shared with Disney/Marvel.
Call her Spider-Woman and Jessica Drew.
Have her wearing spider-based costumes.
Have spider-based powers.
However, Marvel Studios can:
Call her Jessica Drew.
Retain her backstory, which has her being an agent for HYDRA.
Have her be a member of the Avengers and an agent of SWORD.
The weird thing about Jessica Drew and Spider-Women in general, however, is that a lot of them don't really connect with Spider-Man apart from having the term "Spider" in their superhero names...
Plus, as previously mentioned, being an agent of HYDRA is a big part of Jessica Drew's origin story, so if that goes away, people will get mad. If Jessica Drew is getting a movie, it'd have to be a co-production between Sony and Marvel Studios. Alternatively, Sony could use Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin, or Charlotte Witter or snip out the part about Jess being a HYDRA agent and simplify to "a generic evil organization", but...
Separate names with a comma.
