The movie did fix the pacing issues the second half of the TV series had which is an improvement but I did miss moments that were cut for the movie like Hayate learning how to fly a VF-1 and their visit to the cat planet. I'm wondering who the antagonist for the second film is. What with the cyborg looking evil Walkure and robotic enemy ghost/VF maybe the enemy this time isn't organic?
Hmm, that got me thinking maybe the enemy Valkyrie is perhaps a brain washed Milia? Which is why Max has to come out of "retirement" to try and rescue her. Then we finally get to see what happened to Hikaru, Misa, and Minmay. Yeah, I can dream that Kawamori is finally going to close off this chapter of Macross.
I did notice that the logo on the blue Valkyrie has a blue side and red, so perhaps she shows up with a red YF-29 using the same deco layout but reversed logo. Would be cool if the movie finally closes out the fates of Hikaru, Misa and Minmay.
The reason we never find out what happens next to the Megaroad crew is precisely because their story is done. They flew away to help spread culture and humankind across the galaxy. Anything more is likely to just mess things up.
If Macross Delta had employed the premise of Walküre versus Yami_Q_ray from the beginning, that would have made for a much more interesting TV series.
I do find this concept a lot more fun and interesting. General reactions to the new trailer seems to think so too. I know Kawamori originally wanted Delta to be about an idol team and acrobatics/flight club working together maybe a rival idol group was also part of his original concept? Either way I'm pretty excited for the new movie.
On 3 October 1982, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross debuted on Japanese television. Since then, we have celebrated 39 years of love!

Nice. I'll have to watch it on my computer since there is a lot there. Edit: I was looking at that Macross Blu-ray set on AJ and was wondering if it had subtitles in it. I can't remember where it became normal for the Japanese releases.
@betsuni @FireSkyJet delta series, or frontier movies (special edition set only). Here’s the whole list as of February ish.
I am interested to see what they do with potential US releases for everything. I generally don't mind watching it in Japanese, with or without subtitles, but it makes it a little harder to introduce one of my favorite shows to anyone who didn't take a couple years of Japanese in college, for instance. If they managed US releases with English dubs that would be worth re-purchasing... everything, really. If they were just subtitles... maybe.
Here’s hoping they do a big international campaign with the 40th celebration next year. Would love to be able to causally buy some Macross in local stores like I theoretically could the new RT release.
Scans from MAHQ on Facebook for the upcoming Macross Delta movie. SV-303 looks cool. Looks like Excedol is back.
