That’s actually a good fit. Basically, you just make it a simple, fun action movie that knows what it is much like recent Fast and Furious movies and Rampage.
I'd be down for a updated version of the theme with lyrics, played via car radio, during a car chase. You could have it being on a mix tape made by Brad Turner for kicks. Thinking the team needs a theme song.
Let's face it, you know they are just going to fuck this up. The characters and more importantly the vehicles will be nothing like the cartoon. At least Bay isn't doing this but it will still get butchered like Transformers.
It will definitely suffer from the same problems as Bayformers, G.I Joe and Power Rangers. In the end, we're probably just going to get a more "nerdy" Fast and The Furious.
If you would have told me five years ago that I'd be expecting a MASK film by the guy who did Coolio's Fantastic Voyage and TLC's Waterfalls but I think we're now at a reality where basically anything can happen. This director has done some good stuff before, I think he can pull off something watchable, at the very least.
I’m expecting the vehicle’s secondary form to look like a Bayformer robot mode. So Thunderhawk will be a 2019 Camaro that turns into a metal thing with wings that don’t look nothing like the Camaro.
So this is finally getting off the ground. I hope for the best. Cool masks, cool vehicles, and the cartoon song to cameo.
I think if they kept the vehicles and their gimmicks as close to the toon as possible, then it could be decent.
Love M.A.S.K and the idea of a live action movie is appealing. As long as it's not connected to some stupid "Hasro-verse" and just exist as it's own fun thing, then I look forward to more news!
The only way I think that works is if you set the film in the 80s, or for some reason everyone's car-tech is built into 'sleepers' (Rhino may be the exception). I love those vehicles, but they were very much a product of their time. I'm not afraid of significant changes to the vehicles or aesthetic, or even the masks and their powers, since the original show was fairly wide-ranging about what the vehicles could do and how, and that opens up a lot of potential ground for reinterpretation.
Since he directed Straight Outta Compton and has directed Ice Cube a few times, I want both O'Shea Jacksons in this movie...
For me I think that's one of things that turned me off to TFs. I don't want Bumblebee to be a camero. And I think with cars specifically that old cars like the ones depicted are collectibles these days, so I could totally see them being using in modern time but decked out with MASK tech. I vote for Richard Riehle for Miles Mayhem and Aaron Ekhart as Matt Trakker.
I don't see a problem if they set it up in the modern day and use the current versions of the old cars. They mainly use common people cars. Thunderhawk is a Camaro. Yeah, Camaros can be monsters, but it's not a million dollar Hypercar. Rhino is a Semi Tractor. Very common. Gator is a Jeep. Condor is a Motorcycle. Also common vehicles. They can do "transformers" in disguise better than the Transformer movie cars. The only real "rich people" car is Shark being a Porsche. That would draw eyes in Boulder Hills Colorado, I think. Still, I can picture all these cars as "sleepers".
