On Monday I had a doctors appointment for general check up. I told my doctor that I’m burned and that my body is exhausted...I’m doing 58 hours per week on 6 days. He took my blood pressure and he noticed that my blood pressure is higher than last time and the cause of this is stress. Without me asking for it, he gave me a signed paper to give to my employer to reduce my hours. Then things at work escalated, as he rip the paper and laughed me out of his office.

    Any suggestions without me getting

I suggest you find other employment if that is your supervisor's attitude.

I am assuming the one who ripped up the paper was your employer since you didn’t make that clear, but if that is how your boss reacts to a DOCTOR’S AUTHORITY, the you need to find a new job ASAP!

What your boss, I’m assuming, did was wrong and because this job is affecting your health in such a negative fashion, you SHOULD have your hours lowered. That action your boss did was possibly illegal. There ARE laws that say an employee’s health should not be at risk. I am not sure what you do for a job, but if at all possible, this needs to be brought to HR.

Are you in the states? I mean, aren't they legally required to make adjustments if you have a medical slip?

I mean, that's your life. Like, high BP can lead to complications. I would say lose your job over your life. A story I was told by the IT guy at my old job, was his wife was a career woman, they wanted children, but she worked so hard, many hours everyday never had the time. At 41, she said "ok, I'm getting old let's try it". So she got pregnant right away with twins, this was the 80's and medical care wasn't as good, to put in perspective. Well, she started having pains at work and asked her boss if she can leave early to go to the doctor. Her boss told her if she leaves now, she can not return to her job. She sat back at her desk and started having complications. Long story short, no kids or wife made it that day. JOBS CAN BE REPLACED, YOUR LIFE CAN NOT.

I am assuming here, so I may be wrong, but I am guessing that there are laws that say that employers have to adjust for medical slips.

^^^^^^^THIS is very valid advice! If your employer will NOT follow a DOCTOR’S advice, then you NEED to leave AT ONCE!

An employee’s LIFE is NOT worth risking money over. LIVES are NOT replaceable!!!!

then find another job. Your health is more important than a manager that wants you to kiss his *** and doesn't care about your health.

You have workers rights on your side, but pursuing it for your pound of flesh will no doubt (since your boss is a douche) be stressful and will most likely raise your blood pressure.

Plenty of work out there if you look for it. Your health is your life and you can't apply for another one of those.

    Best of luck bro

Might not be a bad idea to consult a lawyer.

If you've been with a company for at least a year if you live in the US than you are entitled to certain rights under the Family Medical Leave Act. This act doesn't just cover temporary leaves of absences but also work adjustments to your schedule for a certain amount of time in accordance with your doctor's recommendations. If your boss is being a dick and not willing to work with you than I suggest you follow the chain of command up to the next tier. Though in this case, that's also what HR is there for. I would suggest speaking with your HR about the company policies and doing research into FMLA coverage. FMLA coverage is a Federal law that all companies have to follow as long as they have 50 or more employees. That said this will probably only be a temporary solution to the problem even if you can get this worked out in your favor. I would also suggest looking for another job at the same time.

Wow, your boss/manager/employer is really a prick over a health issue... people like these deserve to be fired (can you at least report him?)

Might as well quit that job and find another one, 'cause you don't need these type of losers in your workforce

But in all seriousness, best you find a new job, before this one kills you.

Im my opinion, life is WAY more important than the all mighty dollar to chase after. Sure,......everyone has to have it too live but if your not alive then you can't enjoy the fruits of ANY labor. I think employers need to understand that and people are not machines. Though it seems some folks in boss position of authority forget that. So always take health more important than a dollar bill no matter if a job change is in need big time. Just really my 2cents for thought.

On top of that, I am going through a burn out, I force myself out of bed. I am in the restaurant business (open kitchen), and there's times where I get cranky and irritated to the point where the smallest thing pisses me off. There's been a few occasions when I am work or driving home from work, where I force my eyes open. I am going to call the the Labor Law in my city on Monday morning and file a complaint. I can't take it anymore.

I want to change jobs but the only experience I have are restaurants, and to be honest, I am getting fed up of them. I've been in the restaurant business for 15 years, that's all I know. I thought about going back to school. but, I have bills and debts to clear out, so therefore, I can't afford going back to school. I am afraid at my age (39), I will have a hard time finding a new job in a new field. Companies know that someone in my age will demand a big pay, so they rather hire younger employees. So I am stuck and confused

It counts as customer service, you can move on to retail, try even for a manager position. But, Target does $13/hr starting, since you have customer service experience you might get more. With the holidays coming up NOW is the time to apply retail. I work at register with no customer service experience in the last 10+ years. Retail will hire anyone, young and old, I'm 35. It was hard for me to get a job, I had to remove my grad degrees and experience from resume to get a call back. But, I think you are good to put all your experience bc it's relevant.
