Oh my god, I can't believe the Scavenger's dead bodies have also been animated by the force that began to remote-control Grimlock at the end of the previous issue!
I mean, OK. I suppose I was never foolish enough to believe that the Scavengers were dead but I'm still surprised to see the reveal that they're alive in the first three pages. I suppose I should be relieved our intelligence isn't being insulting by drawing it out any longer than it needs to be. Here's looking at YOU Tailgate.
In fairness most of us called this. We knew because of the solicits that they were alive and I think I know the twist.... We were always supposed to know. I don't think James was trying to pretend otherwise. In-universe it was believed grimlock had thrashed them but we, the reader knew otherwise. Its the only explanation for why they were revealed in the solicit.
So this basically confirms that there's no reason to get invested in any of the characters in this godforsaken comic because they can be killed in one issue for a cheap cliffhanger and then brought back to life in the next. And it still boggles me how people consider this good writing.
So scorponok just stands there and lets Krok give exposition and Spinister casually touch his shoulder?
I'm curious as to why you read the scenario like that. I think most readers knew (as seen in the discussion on last issue) that this was a fake out by Grimlock and the team as part of some gambit to get the upperhand on Scorponok. The tension isn't supposed to come from "Oh my gosh they are dead" because the reader is supposed to be smart enough to know that isn't what's happening, instead it comes from "what is their plan? Will it work?". This is a pretty common plot device. Think back to The Dark Knight when they faked Gordon's death, or The Prestige (the major premise of the film). I'd consider those to be good writing. I think my favorite version of this is in Young Justice though, season 2 they have characters fake their deaths to infiltrate The Light, then later in the season they pull this with a hero disguised as the villian as part of their heist extraction. I'm curious to see how the plan works out in this issue, the Scavengers are known to be lovable/terrible fuck ups so I'm looking forward to seeing if Scorponok has a contingency plan and how the Scavengers manage to fail upward out of this one.
Not really a spoiler (I knew what I was getting into when scanning the preview) but what I expected/hoped. That being said, "Phew!" I didn't think they'd invest so much time in those characters just to suddenly kill them off without it even being seen like Cyclops in X-Men 3. At least I hoped they wouldn't!! They'd show each and every gruesome, tragic death like with Flywheels back in MTMTE 7 (I think).
Nicely ruining the surprise from last issue, then again, only an idiot believes Roberts\' cop-out \"I am killing everyone!\" cliffhangers anymore... I mean, Grimlock was left in a cell with an expert surgeon and a medic. And then when the guards come back, everyone is neatly disassembled, not torn to ribbons like you\'d expect from a berserk dinobot\'s rampage. So no surprised there. What the hell are the Infinites, though? And damn, I was hoping at least Roberts would keep Dante around (he is still the head of Scorponok after all). Especially after the indignity done to Hunter by Costa (or was it Shane?)... And especially considering HEADMASTERS WERE THE MAIN THEME OF THE LAST 1.5 YEARS. Sheesh... can you believe I am clamoring for the days when Hasbro had more input into the comic stories?
