Dat Resonating, magnetic Optimus Prime voice from the original Japaneses voice actor.

On par and maybe even better than the great man himself, Peter Cullen?!

You think so? I always felt so sorry for Japanese TF fans that they have such a generic hero voice for Convoy.

:lol  maybe I'm biased towards generic Anime- Hero voices? Also because he is a legend as has been voicing Convoy since G1?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool as hell they keep the original voice for the character. But where Cullen has one of the most distinctive voices in all American animation history, Genda as Convoy doesn't have the same kind of swagger or individuality, imo. That's more the fault of the voice director back in the '80s who probably told him to play the part more generic hero, but still.

But I'll be there next month, so I may get to check out the Japanese dub in the theater. I'm kind of interested to see how he handles the darker places for the character in the movie.

Yea, I kinda get you from where you are coming from, dont get me wrong Cullen will always be Prime to most od us, but Genda-san was the same to legions of Japanese fans througout as well. Maybe its because Japanese Veteran voice actors dont get too much recognition outside their home country. Which is a shame, as Genda-san has voices hundreds of cool and memorable characters. I too will want to know how he handles all the heavier darkker scenes in the movie as well. Do tell once you have seen it, ya? :D

Tessho Genda sounds pretty cool as Optimus Prime.

It comes out August 8 there; I think that it was one of the few countries that wasn't moved for the world cup too.
