That, plus what sounded like a whole lot of shit starting up, made me all tingly. This guy thinks it means the station's about to self-destruct. Oh yeah, that one guy is probably an Other, blah blah.
Yeah you saw that thread too huh? I believe on page 12 or 13 of that thread a professor of Egyptology posted that the heiroglyphs means Swan Small Death. And as we all know the swan is the name of the hatch that they're in.
I take nothing on forums at face value. And later on, someone pointed out that according to this table, there were better matches for the fourth hieroglyph. So who knows.
Somebody on that lost-forum place picked up on something that went sailing over my head.. We know there's some sort of electromagnetic jiggawhatnow going on in the hatch from the scene some time ago where Jack's necklace pulled away from his neck.
Perhaps he worked on the hatch selling tools to the people working there? I dunno. Anyway, that whole thing with the steam hissing and mechanical sounds when the timer was done obviously has something to do with all those pipes and concrete that Jack and Sayid found under the hatch. Sayid said that he hadn't seen concrete that thick since Chernobyl, so if somehow whatever was in that concrete was about to escape when the timer was counted down, that could be bad. I also believe that the timer isn't done when it gets to zero. I would imagine it flashes more of those heiroglyphs into some sort of secret message. When they've stopped moving, then it's all over.
That sounds too fruity. It seemed to me like each hieroglyph indicated a separate system starting up - that is, when a given hieroglyph appeared, its corresponding system was ready to go. Remember the background: whirrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRR CLUNK CHOONK WHIRRRRRRRRRRRR.... Woohoo! Anyway, for me it's enough to dispel the notion that it's all some big psychological experiment. How disappointing would that be?
I read somewhere that it translates to Cause To Die or something along those lines. Pretty cool that Kate's dad was the army guy in the truck with Sayid. Henry Gale is definatly an other. Anyone notice the smirk he gave Sayid at the end and only Sayid saw it? Plus Henry Gale was Dorothy's uncle's name in Wizard of Oz.
Ok, I've never seen this show, but I want to start from the beginning. How many eps are there so far?
Season one is on DVD now, or you can get it on iTunes for $2 an episode. And I think we're 13-14 episodes into season two. and your in luck next week ABC is showing the first episode of season one.
I'm not sure the name is a lie. It could just be an injoke from the writers. I mean, what would the point of lying about his name be? If he's really David Slobotski, would Sayid somehow realize that he's an Other by the name? A good lier sticks to the truth as much as possible, because it is easier to remember. So I'm guessing his comment about working with "non-metallic metals" could be true, and even the death of his wife. None of what he said makes him "not an Other".
I believe all of the others are using names that they got out of books that they have on island. Ethan Rom could be a variation of Ethan Frome, and we have Henry Gale from the Wizard of Oz where he came to the island on a hot air balloon, also an Oz reference. Also, they've had many scenes where they focus in on books. There are lots of literary references throughout the show.
Yeah, I've noticed that as well. It's partially what lent crediance to an early theory that all of this was in one character (Jack, Locke)'s mind, that everyone else is a creation of his/her imagination. I doubt that's the case, but it was interesting way back when it was put forth. I was hoping we'd see something this week important, but it appears to be another laying the groundwork episode for some later show to have something happen (or not happen). I would've liked to see what happens if the timer completed it's run down. Personally, I keep hoping to see more about Black Smoke.
Well well well DF...It seems you have stolen my user title.... I didn't notice that, I was too busy going "WTF is going on!?!" to notice. I'll have to rewatch the episode.
Isn't Ethan Rom an anagram for 'Other Man'? I think Sayid was on to something when he talked about how he didn't remember anything about his lover. I really wanted him to get a lot further with that guy but there is really no way to see if he is telling the truth. Hell for all we know that it could be a trap and that if a group went to find the Balloon they would just get snuck by the Others.
And "Doctor Marvin Candle" is an anagram for "Liar Montand Cover". And if you recall, in the episode where Danielle is leading people to the Black Rock, she says, "this is where Montand lost his arm". And in the Orientation film, one of Doctor Marvin Candle's arms never moves and looks fake.
