The main thing I learned over the years is that just about anyone working in the business seemingly has no idea what a reboot is.

Well, he’s a voice actor who had a very small role in this movie. He won’t be in the room while the higher ups at Paramount are deciding between prequel or reboot.

    It's science fucking fiction!
It's not supposed to be relatable, it's supposed to be creative and weird.

The lessons learned should be that they shouldn't try to turn this franchise into a boy and his dog
They didn't learn a thing but how to create a hype by spending a lot of money on advertising and getting your cast on every talkshow.

Oh boy. Someone needs to walk you through some science fiction movies & tv shows and explain to you what's actually going on.

I got a better question for Lorenzo...

... what made you think putting a pair of balls on Devastator was a good idea?

This is a series of monumentally stupid comments from the guy who signs the checks.

    Where to begin.

A reboot is something that major franchises do once a decade or so, to throw out what works, restart mythology, or just go in a different directly. Spider-Man has been rebooted twice since 2000. Batman has been rebooted a few times. Super-Man a few times. Marvel effectively rebooted the Hulk after the early and kind of not-canoical MCU movie everyone forgets about with Edward Norton. X-Men is headed towards a fat reboot in a few years now that Marvel owns it.

Secondly, that Unicron comment... lol. Too bad and too late Lorenzo. He literally ended the last big Transformers movie with Cybertron tethered to Earth and Unicron waking up. And his climax ripped a chunk out of the moon and probably killed a hundred million people. If he's not going to reboot, it'll make the movie a complete farce if you do what they did with the Battle of Chicago, and and write it as some smaller affair.

The entire problem of all the Transformers movies between ROtF and TLK is exactly this. The powers that be lose focus on the plot. Pre TLK they had that entire writers room that produced usable, finished scripts. One of them was the King Aurthur stuff. Another was based on Primes and Unicron. And what did they do? Just like RotF and AoE (and to a lesser degree DotM) they let Michael Bay kitbash different parts of scripts together, write new scenes and characters in while shooting the film, and then assemble the plot on the editing room floor.

What ended up being the point of that writers room? To waste time?

You can do big budget-spectacle action and still keep the plot cohesive. Marvel films do that routinely (and Infinity War did a great job particularly, given the number of characters and locations). But that requires disciplined writers and disciplined producers and directors who don't throw out the plan between films. or while they're shooting one.

Evidently, Bumblebee gets it right. Why? Because from what we know, the biggest change was to move it more towards the direction of "tentative reboot based on reception" than "prequel" after the poor reception of TLK, by making the non-Earthform robots very G1-y. The Earth scene Transformers though which make up the film? They're very very Michael Bay in design, which is fine. Point is, the movie knows what it is about.

    Does TLK? Does AoE?

The problem with Transformers movies between 2007 and 2018 - so excluding the first movie and Bumblebee - is the production staff ignored, seemingly on purpose, all the things the many good big budget action movies and franchises of the last 10 years were practicing. That's the lesson. It's not to have smaller films. It's not to be less ambitious or even have different designs (though that helps). It's to be able to tell a story that doesn't get lost.

Is TLK about a prophecy, a staff, Unicron, Cybertron, the Kngiths of Cybertron, Excalibur, or a world teetering on the brink because transformers keep coming? That's where it got lost.

The next movie should be called Bumblebee vs. Wasp or something.

You're kidding, right? Science-fiction is like horror; it's always about something else. There's a reason people liked Marty McFly and Luke Skywalker, you know.

    ...No?

Here's an idea, keep your distance from the movie, Mr. di Bonaventura, and let the people with a clue in their heads about how to make a solid continuity take charge. Tell you what, if you didn't want to do Unicron, ya shouldn't have built him up in the last film. You don't get to take that back now. Just find a director like Travis Knight who respects the franchise and its mythology, and a writer who could look at the end of The Last Knight and figure out how to create a solid story that follows up on it and manages to be a good movie.

The fact that this guy is still on board makes me worry that Bumblebee is more an anomaly (in that it's a well-received Transformers movie) than a sign of things to come.

Hasbro, please take better care of your franchise’s cinematic presentation. You’re heading in the right direction, but clowns like Lorenzo still need to be expunged.

    Thank you.

This guy, got really quiet when Bumble Bee took on G1 elements, he was forced to grin and bear it because we the customer told him we were done taking his shit and that unless they gave us something that resembled Transformers Bumble Bee was going to Bomb.

How are they losing it? Those toys have and are still coming out. The small cast was why they stuck this movie's toys into studio series. A bit like how the first movie mined the hell out of older toylines to flesh out their presence.
Granted studio series was all planned out way back when this was a prequel (whatever it is now, it's not that), but the logic still applies. In the very likely event they go the reboot route, the next movie line will probably have new toys of this movie's cast and probably whatever studio series missed to fill it out.

Few things are more cliche and irksome to my mind than a corporate type acting oblivious to a universally used term while being knowingly vague and ambiguous, and simultaneously acting like they aren't being knowingly vague and ambiguous. :lol

That said, Bee is the first live action film since the first to have me excited and hopeful, so if their goal is more of that I'm 100% fine with that provided I enjoy it once I see it.

Every time he speaks all that spews out is utter trash. Never change bro, never change.

Also, never forget that this guy didnt even want the robots to talk back when TF1 was going into pre-production.
