Well it's like, you know, if a movie franchise has 5 movies, and four of them are bad, and the one good one is arguably only good because it's being compared to bad ones, yeah you should probably assume that the hopes for "anything good to come out of it" is small to nonexistant.

I'm pretty sure I said so before but my expectations for Snake Eyes for the most part have been pretty minimal, because while there was some nice designs + figures to come out of it most of what I've heard hasn't filled me with confidence overall.

I was also gonna wait until watching it myself before taking any reviews seriously because I'm tired of a review telling me how great a movie is only for me to watch it myself and be unimpressed.

I mean they seemingly couldn't even get the title character right.

Also the whole "lawl Kobra Kommander KKK hood" thing was stupid when it was brought up in the past and it's still stupid now.

I saw Snake Eyes and it was awful. It's the Legend of Chun-Li and X-Men Origins: Wolverine edition of GI Joe.

Also, that interviewer's questions were almost as cringe as Lorenzo diBonaventura's answers.

Well fuck, I think the worst part about those comparisons is that I can totally see this movie being those things.

The director of this movie has made terrible movies in the past.

To be fair sometimes a director that is kind of 'infamous' for bad films can still produce a gem here or there and the opposite is just as likely, it's hard to judge because they may be just the right person for this specific project and usually it should be treated on a case-by-case basis.

Though it would seem this time that's not the case. :I

I study this stuff and I didn't know that. Wild that GI Joe went that way with Cobra!

Not totally accurate. For starters, COBRA predates Al Qaeda.

I'm more interested in the militia movement/ Turner Diaries aspect of the statement.

The thing about COBRA is they aren't religious fanatics. They aren't traditionally white supremacists. They aren't traditionally racist. I mean to me they are like SPECTRE or SMERSH from James Bond. They are a fantastical, fictional criminal organization. They aren't trying to ethnically or religiously cleanse the world, they just want to take it for themselves.

Admittedly I don't know anything about GI Joe. So what you're telling me it sounds like is just ambiguous evil, but safe from a marketing stand point. Did the franchise ever go beyond that ambiguous evil? Like the way the Decepticons have in the comic books.

In the GI Joe Resolute animated microshorts, Cobra Commander committed genocide and wiped out all of Moscow, killed 10 million people. In the comics, they do kill people.

But Cobra's never like, "Those filthy immigrants tuk mer jerbs!"

Also, what sparks Cobra Commander's turn to the dark side is his brother's death after returning from Vietnam War. Commander never actually enlisted or served himself. He was a used car salesman in Hama's comics.

Well, that explains everything, the only thing more evil than generic morally bankrupt car sales men is, after all, Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Also, you totally could update this origin by having the brother die after the Afghanistan or Iraq Wars.

Yes you totally could, same with Snake Eyes going to Iraq or Afghanistan instead of Vietnam.

They’ve got to stop letting this guy be the spokesperson. Other than the Cobra Commander stuff I can’t even be angry at half the stuff he said, it just reads like word salad, total clap trap, even worse than when he was doing the Bumblebee press tour! I’m not sure if he’s a bad guy, though he’s a terrible public speaker. Just let the directors do the interviews for these movies. They may say something stupid too, but I’m more confident it won’t be the made up, on the fly bullshit that comes out of the mouth of Lorenzo.
