A Ringwraith was one of the first products announced for this line, is needed to complete the Sauron BAF, and is due for release any day now.

I think he might have been thinking of the Fellbeasts.

They had horses too but I doubt Diamond would make them.

I can't remember if they were on foot or horseback in the book when they were pursuing the fellowship. I think they were called black riders at that point so must have been horsed.

Either way I don't feel like Diamond's Nazgul will even be able to sit on a horse.

I want to say they were on horseback in the book…at least part of the time…been YEARS since I read it, though. I really need to give it another read.

Wait what?!!! LOTR has a book series too?

I can hardly read as it is, so movies FTW!

Full disclosure…but I saw the movies several years before I ever owned the book. Haha. It’s interesting to see how some entire story arcs didn’t make it into the movies.

To me books for LOTR are better, not to diminish the first trilogy movies which are great.

No way they could have adapted them verbatim without an insanely huge budget and like, I don't know, more than 3 movies. Also don't think you could keep people's attention that long.

As much as I do love the books some parts are hard to get through with the archaic writing style and long discriptions. Sometimes I had to reread the same sentence a couple times to understand it (maybe just me though).

No doubt. You can tell they were written by somebody who loved words…whether they were necessary or not…haha. Plus, I tend to forget just how long ago those books were actually written. It’s a bit mindblowing. Peter Jackson and those guys did a great job of distilling them down into a great set of movies us cretins can actually follow.

    Full disclosure....

I love the Hobbit trilogy as well, probably even a tiny bit more than LOTR, and I hope Diamond Select gets around to those figures as well, especially the 13 Dwarfs.

It had some great parts. My favorite here. So metal:

The arcs that were trimmed were well-chosen. From "Fellowship of the Ring", Tom Bombadil, for instance, had little impact on the overall story in the novels - although he does save the hobbits from the Barrow Wrights, which were also cut. That whole ordeal is a set up for the ents later in the story AND explains where the hobbits get their weapons prior to the Prancing Pony incident - the former not really a big deal but the latter is a head scratcher without reading the books. Also, Merry and Pippin were in on the escape from the Shire from the beginning rather than just running into them on the road.

Overall, the books make more SENSE in most regards but they don't FLOW as well as the movies do because Jackson and Walsh did a great job of trimming all the fat.

The Hobbit, on the other hand...oh dear. Those films are overloaded by not only leaving all the fat on the bone but adding additional sides that don't need to be there. By the end of it, you leave feeling as gluttonous as a dwarf in a lord's larder. There are several impactful film beats but it could have easily have been two films instead of three. Don't get me wrong, there's definitely room for expansion when adapting The Hobbit to film (the Battle of the Five Armies is literally only three pages long and Tolkien writes about it like he's bored). But one of the big main issues with the Hobbit films comes from mucking up the timeline - REALLY badly.

Biggest change that bugs me is giving Glorfindel's role in Fellowship to Arwen. I understand he's not important to the rest of the 3rd age but he was an important character in the 2nd and it would have been cool to have his cameo.

I'd like a movie just on Glorfindel. He's a kickass character.

This was the problem with Tolkien - he was a great world builder and a great story creator, but not a good story teller. He could spend pages upon pages describing the scenery and how a single blade of grass moved in the wind and glistened in the light, but once it came to actual actions... "a few guys met up and... events transpired...".

My least favorite from Weta. This one has a heavy head and they should have made it so that the fish he's holding kind of serves as a third leg. Without the plastic stand, he'd just tip over. Weta has another version where he's holding two bunnies. I might have to get that one and see if it will work. This one is just disappointing.
