Because of a crazy idea and personal curiosity, I've been trying to find more information on this thing: - TFwiki mentions it in the "Unused Concepts" section of the Combiner page: "A Scramble City-style dinosaur combiner. The body is a T. rex, while the limbs are a pterodactyl (right arm), Ankylosaurus (left leg), Dimetrodon (left arm), and Styracosaurus (right leg)" - I know the image comes from the "Transformers Generations" Book. - I also found an old blog post discussing the figure, but it didn't offer that much information. I believe it also mentioned the idea of the body being a brontosaur? Alas, I am unable to find the post anymore, it seems. So, I come to you all now! I understand the alt. modes for each limb, and recognize each for what prehistoric animal it is, but are there any known sketches of the individual bot modes? Mentions of a color scheme? Any other general information other than "It was an idea that never came to fruition." Thank you for your time, and I look forward to seeing what you all have to say!
Just in case you don’t know, this image you posted seems to be from the dreamwave era, or more recent.... so it’s not from the G1 era so there’s a chance there isn’t much more to be found as far as design images
Not only the aesthetic, but there's something reminiscent in the shaping of the head and chest, isn't there? I'm not sure about it being Dreamwave era, as the book it appears in was released July of 2001, whereas Dreamwave started in 2002. So, while I agree that it's likely not G1, it must be from before 2001. But I get what you're saying too, it could simply exist in this one image, and that's it. I was able to find one other picture of it, but it appears to be little more than an unedited. Luckily, it does give some (potential) context: Obviously, the only thing I can make out is "BEASTWARS NEO" Which might place it around 1999-ish? Again, if anyone has any other knowledge, thoughts, or anything else, I'd love to hear it. And if @Primeultra is right, and there is nothing more than this one image, then so be it!
To me, it looks almost like a potential Predaking remold, or at the very least using Predaking as the base for the drawing.
If was ment to be for Neo, maybe it was going to be new toys, but Takara went for just reusing the Seacons.
Been trying to do more research, and I'm starting to think I may have hit a brick wall. Though, I'm sure a number of you knew that already. Using the Way Back Machine, I was able to find an article discussing the illustration (Found here: Botch the Crab - Anonymous Dinosaur Combiner Team: Unite!! ) which provided information on the pre-historic animals used as inspiration for the limb designs and little else. Though, it did provide a fun name for the team, though not official; "Saurobots". There is one other article I recall that I have yet to find, though I now realize was little more than the same individual sharing colorings of the design from a site known as TFans. While I was able to find the site on the same Way Back Machine, none of the threads are archived there, nor on what the site came to be. Being fan renditions, this is of little concern, but still something of note. Running the text pointing to the figure in the second image provided though a handful of (free) image translation tools, I can confidently say the figure was meant to be in Beastwars-Neo. Interestingly, the last line always came out as something along the lines of "It was a good idea." So... yeah. From what I've gathered; Appearing in the first edition of Transformers generations, published July 2001, littles known of this combiner. It appears on a page with other sketches of unused figure concepts. The message beside the figure denotes it as having originally been involved with Beastwars-Neo, and that "It was a good idea." Comprised of a Pterodactyl, Ankylosaurus, Dimetrodon, and Styracosaurus for limbs and an unknown creature for the body, it would appear to utilize the "Scramble City" system of connections utilized by most g1 combiners. Names, individual designs, and proposed color schemes are unknown by the public, though may exist. With that, I guess the first bit is complete. Now, for the next few dozen steps! Obviously, if anyone has any information on the figures, I would love to hear it! And I also wanted to thank everyone who contributed!
