Look at Grimlock's dinosaur head just vanish from his shoulder when he transforms.

This is a nitpicky thing that I don't really care about but it's really weird how obvious it is. Usually they have neat tricks to cheat and make the Transformations look good but watch the dinosaur head on his right(left on the screen) shoulder. It just completely disappears suddenly and looks bad.

Both halves of his head move past his shoulders and enter his body.

Yeah, it just pops away. Just a glitch, as his left (our right) one actually disappears off-screen, so they obviously masked that one, and maybe were going to cover the other dissapearing with some parts in front, but then someone tweaked it and forgot the vanishing head was no exposed. Normally they're clever when that happens, so this was obviously a flub. (like Bumblebee's mouth clipping through his battle mask during the highway chase, models this complex, something's bound to go wrong)

It's funny, accepting that he has two full upper-jaw pieces for shoulder pads, one of them or half of each must be faux parts, one of the very few instances of faux-kibble in the TF movies.

I was more ticked off by Strafe's transformation - you literally see him shrink into pterodactyl mode.

Because G1's quality is so much more consistent?

All the Dinobots have transformations where parts shrink away and new parts kind of 'grow'. You can see Scorn's spines (all three sets) literally burst out of his back. It's almost like how the KSI bots have their signature transformation style, the Dinobots also have their own organic kind of style to reflect their bestial nature and forms. I kind of like it.

I know the Transformers films have a pretty high error and mistake count compared to most films, but AoE was just...wow!

Actually Strafe's is rather clever for a background character. Not only are his shoulder pads merely the top of his beats mode heads, the arms are the bottom jaws, so his mass remains fairly consistent and cleverly dispersed between modes.

Also, AOE had more CGI models/Transformers on screen for longer periods of time. And yet it's got no more blatant animation errors than any other film.

I hated the lack of transformations and the transformium cop-out in AOE. In terms of transforming FX specifically, I found AOE to be a step back from the previous three films from a design perspective.

For this transformation, however, if you watch it in super slow-mo in high resolution, you'll see that the right shoulder head half slides under his upper arm piece. It doesn't just "blink out". I think it's done too quickly to provide a good visual look, so I do agree that it's a bad choice in FX design, but it isn't an inadvertant mistake.

EDIT: just looked at the youtube video in the OP. Encoding to youtube definitely seems to have missed a frame or two at the point where the shoulder slides under.

Maybe in the toy (I don't have him). In the movie he seems to shrink a fair amount and his heads basically just come out of nowhere as he flips around a couple times in the air. His arms/shoulders definitely aren't any part of his heads in the transformation.

As someone mentioned above, the dinobots seem to have a fair amount of faux kibble in the movie.

No, his arms are the jaws. Just really transformed. The dead giveaways are two protruding spikes that are the left head's underbite, as well as the crests being fairly large in robot mode compared to beast mode.

Every toy merely places the beast mode heads on shoudlers, leaving the arms as kibble, even though every toy has undersized the heads. The Pteradon body is, concievably, just the legs and part of the torso, with the cape-to-wings gaining size from absorbing mass from the robot torso, and the arms and shoulder armour forming it's two large heads and necks.

Perhaps as faux kibble, but the arms definitely don't become the heads, just like how Grimlock's robot shoulders don't have anything to do with his Dino head.

It was a cartoon. It could be forgiven. This is a live action movie, that people pay to go watch at a theater, or buy for home. When G1 started to get into plots, it was fairly consistent. These movies are good, but they are the furthest thing away from being perfect. I wish Marvel could get part of Transformers back. Then we would get quality movies.

Agreed. Some people don't seem to understand that "G1 did it" is NOT an excuse for the Bay movies doing it. We expect a lot more from a major motion picture than we do a 1980s kids show, that and Hasbro should have learned from their mistakes the first time.
