Looking at the TV spots and trailers, Lockdown is a freaking one-bot army:

    - he's got a gun that pops out of his chest and fits on his face (complete with visor)

    - his hand transforms into a gun (fighting Optimus), and it pops out blades (he tries to stab Yeager with some kind of chainsaw)

    - and he pulled out a knife to try to stab Yeager with (the pic where he is on his knees)

Most of the other Transformers have relied on their fighting ability and a few basic weapons (blasters or blades). Lockdown will do the same, but he distinctly carries more weaponry than even Optimus Prime (looking at each film separately, he had a gun and blade to debut with, ROTF gave him a jetpack, and DOTM gave him an axe and knuckle-dusters).

It should be interesting if this arsenal will mean anything beyond him being a serious and lethal threat. Where did he get them from? Can he manage without them? Will he get new weapons? AOE Lockdown is certainly a mystery and that is a great part of his appeal. Even if the whole "mysterious alien" approach for the Decepticons did not work out too well previously, in Lockdown's case and thanks to his client and his arsenal it should be a success.

You're looking too much into it.

TFs in the movies have the tendency to generate weapons from many places, and not all weapons are active at the same time.

Starscream had lots of gadgets on his arms as well.

This Lockdown might be paying homage to Animated Lockdown which had just about any kind of weapon available to use.

Well he is a bounty hunter, so I imagine he needs to be decked the fuck out in everything he can get his paws on.

The problem with trailers and TV spots is that Decepticons often don't live up the promise of the marketing.

If you just went by the trailers and TV spots then it looked like Devastator was going to do more than just suck sand and die easily by a wonder weapon that just happens to have been in range but is never ever seen or heard of again.

If you just went by the trailers and TV spot then Shockwave seemed like he was going to be some sort of film bad ass. Once again nothing outstanding done in the film except looking cool standing there with gun. Died in another super lame death because after two films somehow they haven't had Prime and the human military as the most powerful thing in the universe.

Even with Starscream it seemed like from the marketing that maybe they would expand on him being fairly competent in the first movie. Nope totally incompetent waiting to get killed by Sam in the third film.

I really hope I'm wrong but I just don't see any Decepticons becoming a bad ass after they were just punching bags in films two and three. The series seems to have fallen into the hero worship that other series have fallen into in the past, you are so worried about the hero being all powerful that you forget they need a stronger villain to challenge them. Well and Hollywood's obsession that the heroes have to win or people will not buy a movie ticket.

It is only a fair fight for lockdown if he is as strong as movie one Megatron or Sentinel because literally no other transformer can take on optimus in a 1 v 1 besides those two and as you see in the trailers galvatron wanted in on that 1v1 action and got his ass handed to him by prime

The problem with this is all is that it becomes very predictable very quick.
Introduce a Villain - Kill them (rinse and repeat)

Now we get drones as the main set piece.

They should re-name these films : Autobots and Humans.

Yes, because the Trailer is sentient and suffers from Stockholm Syndrome.

Um, so he's the most heavily armed just because of the head cannon, arm cannon w/ bayonets, and a knife?

IIRC, Blackout had a chest cannon (with which he basically solo-leveled the SOCCENT base with), some kind of EMP type weapon (used moments after he transforms on screen for the first time), he could utilize the tail rotors of his alt mode as some kind of saw (used to destroy a car in the final battle for...some reason), in the games it's shown he can take his entire main rotor backpack and swing it around as a large spinning melee weapon, based on how alt. mode weapons are used by Brawl and Starscream it can be assumed Blackout had access to the guns on his alt. mode which at maximum loadout are three 7.62mm miniguns and two 12.7 Fifty-cal Browning Machine guns, and then he also can launch Skorponok as an independent hunter-killer to provide extra support (and he has a few tricks such as a razor-imaplement tail, spinning claws that can also shoot missiles, and stealth provided the enviroment can support burrowing).

And you're telling me that AoE lockdown has more firepower than a guy who turns into a freakin' gunship that launches robot scorpions?

    I had forgotten about Brawl...

And yeah Blackout was awesome. But it's like he was a proto-Soundwave, he had all these tricks but he wasn't as special or badass as Lockdown is being portrayed as, you know what I mean?

Blackout was a proto-Soundwave, given that's who originally was in the role, but that's besides the point since in the end, he's not Soundwave.

Furthermore, how is Blackout not "as special or badass" as Lockdown? He's literally the first transformer anybody ever sees in the first film. He doesn't need any help to absolutely decimate the SOCCENT base with just his chest cannon and practically kill 99% of everybody staffed there, with him entrusting the final 1% (Lennox's group) to be finished off by Skorponok. Then later, he's wrecking so much shit that Lennox has to go all-out balls-to-the-wall and launch grenades into Blackout's nads just to finish him off. And then in the Transformers Movie ride, he's probably the one Decepticon who gets the closest to capturing Evac/riders out of all the Cons (excluding Devestator, who doesn't really count since he's just a giant vaccum and did it in ROTF before) and the only one that, IIRC, actually isn't killed since the last he's seen is in the subways after a train smashes his right arm off.

All Lockdown does is turn into a walking artillery piece (which leaves him completely blind to anything else around him) and have a secondary gun and one or two small blade weapons. He doesn't destroy entire bases by himself, he doesn't make the humans shit their pants when he shows up, and he has to bring an entire freakin' space armada for backup. Yes, he's such a badass...

Blackout never actually uses his pop out chest cannon in the movie.

Brawl, 4 missile launchers on each shoulder, two cannons on his back, Gatling gun and ripper blades on his left arm, four barrel cannon on his right arm, and his main tank cannon in vehicle mode.

If you look closely he actually uses his arm emp cannon things to blow up the airplanes and the base, the pop out cannon from his just he never fires, oh and blackout does not turn into a gunship he turns into a mh-53 transport helicopter with extra carry load but yes he does carry all those miniguns and fifty cal. machine guns in him. I'd say the most heavily armed transformers we have scene go 1. Brawl, 2. Blackout, 3. Lockdown.
