I totally enjoyed the first movie. That being said, I wasn't expecting a sequel, nor did I feel there was a need for one.

I don't know about this. The first one ended pretty definitively, and I don't know what more they could do in this universe with these characters. I liked the first one a lot, but I'm not demanding a sequel. Also, I really hope they change this title. Not only does it sound dumb with two repeats, it's just confusing everyone. Some people know the movie as Edge of Tomorrow. Others as Live, Die, Repeat (which is a way better title by the way), and others as Live, Die, Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow. It's already starting to rival Zombie 2 in terms of alternate titles.

Well, I mean he isn't, that was the entire point of the movie's final act. That he, somehow, undid everything back to normal except the aliens were dead.... somehow.

Oh yeah, minor spoiler, the hero won and the aliens all died.

I can see it working if it's a prequel. I forget the heroine's name but the entire plot of the first film worked mainly because she figured out at one point that Tom Cruise had the same reincarnation-reset power she once had.

The lore of the first film sets her up as being the big hero who initially starts turning the tide against the aliens, which the film reveals as being her getting the reset power. She also had the other guy who simply believed they both could travel through time at some point. But what was it like for her to initially discover these powers after the accidental blood transfusion? She didn't have somebody who would understand a rather gruesome Groundhog Day effect, so she'd need to work that shit out on her own.

Also where the hell did she get the helicopter rotor sword from, I'm sure they could invent something cool for that.

Being unable to turn that into a cool scene or minor plot point would be failing to new levels. But okay, a prequel about Rita would be as good an idea as any. Emily Blunt was just divine in that movie, so yeah 'Live. Die. Repeat - The Angel of Verdun' could be a winner.

Maybe get the original novel's author to give them his notes of stuff he trimmed for pacing or anything on the original background for the character that became Rita.
