True there's absolutely no guarantee that we would get good toys out of this. But there's at least a chance. The Yamato/Arcadia stuff is nice no doubt, but it's too expensive and a little too adult oriented for what I'm looking for.

As far as HG I think they can sell enough shirts, mugs, and the occasional figure to stay open forever. It would be nice for legal and other reasons if they gave up but I don't see it.

Really the only way I see us getting an actual Macross like product in the US is if someone buys them out. Has that been tried?

What you probably want is the Bandai stuff. It's not as swanky as Yamato or Arcadia, but it's far more wallet friendly, and will last a lot longer than Toynami's stuff.
Well unless we get access to their accounting department, it's hard to say. But it looks to me like they're losing money overall and hoping for a big payoff that revives the brand.
Now there's what's never going to happen. HG's main business is real estate and property management. They are rent-seekers by nature, not proper entrepreneurs that would outright sell something for a one-time profit. What we really need is for the right lawsuit to come along, especially while they're weakened financially.

You are probably right. I'd really like an updated version of the old Takatoku 1:55 valk and 1:3000 SDF1.

If they take too long this way, the movie will be a failure.

Years ago, I predicted that Duke Nukem Forever would be released and Guns N' Roses would reunite before a Robotech live-action movie would hit theaters, and I was spot-on. With that in mind, here are events that will happen before we ever see a live-action Robotech:
    • ISIS will disband.
    • North Korea will cease to exist as a country.
    • AC/DC will finally call it quits after losing Malcolm Young, Brian Johnson, and Cliff Williams.
    • Fantastic Four finally gets a proper movie.
    • A DC Extended Universe movie gets a "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
    • A Marvel Cinematic Universe movie gets a "Rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
    • Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Perlman do Hellboy 3.
    • Dredd 2 is made.
    • Song of the South finally gets a Blu-ray/DVD release.
    • We colonize the moon.

Well, now I'm really torn. Because I'd love for ISIS to disband, but maybe not if that's going to bring us one step closer to a Robotech movie.

What's Happening With The Robotech Movie?

Hmmm...yeah...my reboot-redesign-new continuity-"inspired by" sense is tingling... :sly:

Not much else they can do when there's so much from the original property that they are not allowed to use.

I think perhaps the RLAM and Star Trek: Discovery should both be banished to a very dark place where they will never see the light of day. A place like that warehouse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark...

You seem to forget there was a fourth movie in that series.

I didn't forget. Pretty sure the warehouse didn't lose its roof, nor would the place be left "as is" post-Soviet infiltration.

i am honestly all for it. as i am curious to see what they can do with robotech, without actually using anything from macross, the only thing anybody would actually remember. that, and if it bombs horribly, maybe harmony gold will go down with it.

Considering every other cartoon to movie adaption of transforming robots results in things looking barely like they did, I doubt HG will have to worry about Japan suing them.

Even if it bombs, it won't really harm HG. I doubt they will finance the film themselves. They'll get paid to license out Robotech & rake in merchandise $$ and probably a Robotech Blu Ray re-release $$.

yea, but if it bombs, they are going to have a really hard time getting other companies to make their crap for the next 10 years.

And the last "reboot" they did? I remember that one. It didn't go too well with a lot of people. I'll watch it when it becomes available to rent for $1. Or find some way to stream it for free. After the last crap released by HG, I can't find any justification to pay for anything with their name on it.

    I hope and pray.....

Yeah, but if the movie sucks donkey dick, I don't think the sales won't be as high as they'd hope.

    How's about never?

yea. movies like this is all about merchandise. harmony gold is expecting this movie to make them millions in sales. if the movie bombs, they'll make jack shit. even if they put zero down on the film, they are still going to have to put money down on getting toy and other merchandise companies, to make this shit.

but, if the movie bombs, these things are just going to sit on shelves. and nobody is going to be stocking anything robotech related for a long time afterwards.

It's the other way around. Toy companies (and other merch manufacturers) pay the license holder for the privilege of making toys; the license holder doesn't pay toy companies to please make the toys.
