This "loop" they're talking about is exactly what live action transformers should NOT be doing. That only ensures that the brand remains stale and predictable!

Bayverse designs are so good because they decided to make crazy, unique, and cool looking robots WITHOUT thinking about toys. It didn't always work, but most of the time it did, and guess what? We got awesome toys of a lot of those designs anyways. Now we have a big budget action film basically remaking kingdom airrazor and SS-38 Optimus again.

 

I think it can work, if done right.

For me it's like any TF design (G1, Animated, UT, Cyberverse, Earthspark, etc.) less that they are crazy or unique it's that they look cool looking (which is what got me into Transformers with the 07 movie) and want a toy of that design. Cause there are definitely some Bayverse designs that are crazy and unique in a good way but personally, they are some to crazy and I think they IMO look bad because they went to crazy with it (like Arcee and Que for me).

I think it's kinda cool to think about it as toys also, since this is a toy-selling franchise and we have problems with translating these designs into 3d toys without having a giant backpack like a G1 Arcee, not that we should think more about the toys, it should be toys and in the movie equally.

The Kingdom Airazor thing I'll give you but the SS38 maybe retool at least make sense,

For me while it sucks that it's using K. Airazor engineering and not a new mold, I also don't have a big problem with cause it's a goated figure so I think if it works it works.

That being said I see it as this, we get a K. reused engineering beast toy, and in the opposite line we get a new mold. Which Cheetor, and Airazor have, the same will happen with Primal and Rhinox (I kinda find it cool)

Also just I think it's cool that we can compare and contrast the two different lines and see how they look.

 

Can you link which one you saw? All I see are cases of 3 voyagers. I didn't see a case of 2.

 

If I get that prime, it'll be as a painting/modding challenge. No other reason to get it, really. I already see a LOT that can be easily modded, and I do enjoy painting figures.

That really is the best way to become stale. That's how you become a closed loop of self-referencing and never bringing in new fans. Sure "it can be cool if done right" applies to anything, but as a general rule, "we did the same thing as before" will never service the franchise in the long run. Plus, they're not just talking about toys in that quote. It specifically says the ILM designers referenced the toys. If bayverse had done that then Transformers probably wouldn't have become a film franchise.

 

TBF you could argue that Transformers is not even close to the only IP that does this and is still running today where it's just doing the same designs or basically the same designs each time.

What matters a lot is keep on telling a good story and adapting your material for a new age. Thats how these IP's like TMNT, (or even Marvel and DC) keep alive. Which for the most part there designs while different in each fiction still have the general look of the characters - design wise.

For me, I'd like designs that maybe keep the essence of that character from G1 but maybe update the design to be new and different (Bomber Megatron for example or TF1-3 Optimus). But I am a Bayverse kid so I can easily adapt if the designs just look badass and good. Since my favorite designs for Bonecrusher, Crosshairs, Barricade, Blackout and Ironhide are their Bayverse designs.

As for G1, the only way it completely disappears from the franchise is if the toys for G1 stop selling or (morbit though which I hate to even say) the G1 generation pass away.

But in the end I know this could go on and on and this isn't the thread for that so I'd say we shall just have to agree to disagree on this (but agree that the Bayverse has some great designs).

Hoping next year we maybe get the start of introducing the AOE Dinobots back into SS, since Swoop is all that is left for the 86 Dinobots. Or at least a Leader AOE Hound.

Yeah for the mainline stuff they said a fair bit for not being able to say much. They also said this team is also working on the upcoming animated films toyline.

 

I forgot how freaking fun this figure is, is it perfect? No but he’s so fun to pose such a good Prime toy of a great design.
