I honestly feel like I'm stealing shit lol
So I made a new accessory for the ion blaster of the studio series Optimus Prime. Total scratch build.
It took about a week to brainstorm and build. Here's the WIP photos: Heavy/Scratch: - "Action Figure" Studio Series Optimus Prime
Aaaaand here's the finished product!
Are the thigh panels removable?
Soooo I might have a MPM10 problem……
Awesome work, that Prime looks great! The arm guards for the guns aren't something I knew existed until pretty recently, they're really cool looking. How did you paint the flames, did you use some kind of stencil?
Also, check out who arrived today!
I’ll be uploading my thoughts once I get to really check him out later!
Yes, the panels are connected to the thighs via ball joints. It's easy to pop out, plus the ball joints are supported by a pin so it won't snap off easily.
FINALLY got around to transforming my Recon Ironhide (you know, the guy I've been going on and on about?) and yep...it's a figure alright. Lol
I knew that I would be getting something with no ankle pivots, but I didn't think it would be as bad to stand him up as it was as far as trying to get him into anything other than an A pose with his legs. Chest flopping everywhere and his torso would not peg in to sit flush. Paint mishaps everywhere and so many loose pieces. Door hinge on one side, thigh rotation on one side, wheel peg on the other side, the list went on and on. But you know what? I'm still happy I got it. I would be lenient with any other character. Oh and that backpack..my gosh the backpack.
Glad I only spent $50 on it! I took a couple of pictures but they are pretty vanilla. Any other pose had me to the point I didn't care to take any pictures of the gun gimmicks or bow, etc. He's going back into a more stable truck mode and that's where he will stay for a bit.
Oh thank god, that makes him look so much better
Wow what a difference that makes.
Probably gonna wait til I see him in stores before buying.
Had some time to check out Grindor!
The new hands are awesome! They add so much more expressiveness to the mold, it opens up a ton more options for poses. They're decently articulated too, at the thumb and distal digits. Comparing overall to Blackout, the joints are a little looser, but not enough to be disruptive. The arm panels actually plug in securely on Grindor, while is a very appreciated improvement from Blackout. The darker base color for the limbs is nice, and the rust weathering looks alright most of the time, the exception being the right arm. It'll all get removed when I repaint him anyway, so no big deal.
While not remolded in alt mode, I'm actually kind of impressed that they added paint details specifically from the CH-53, like the numbering and the rounded portion under the front windshield. Transformation is mostly fine, the feet panels (with the "MARINES" decal) seem to plug in a little more securely this time around and the tail rotor is easier to plug in/remove. I did say mostly though, which brings me to the only problem I have with Grindor:
The sections between the cockpit and rotor absolutely will not stay tabbed in, I actually have them taped for the picture above. I'm going to see what I can do about that, because it unfortunately compromises the look of alt mode pretty significantly.
Oh, and Ravage is great! The ball joints his limbs are on have a surprising range of motion, which is nice.
In summary, I do think Grindor is an improvement overall from Blackout, and it really boils down to those new hands. I'm glad I picked him up, and I can't wait to get started on some paint work!
Great, thanks! That gives me hope some 3p company will make an upgrade kit with better, more-foldable panels and maybe better electro-whips.
They all look so good together! It's almost a little sad that their trio is going to be a duo again soon
Wow i am glad that works. Wish it could connect to the forearm or the back but its a cool feature. I would have loved for that abdomen area to be semi translucent like the thighs! That would have been so cool. Oh well, looking forward to him.
So after him, it is just DOTM Sideswipe for this year's live action stuff correct?
He is really an improvement articulation and deco wise over Blackout in my opinion.
I also encountered the same problem with that section between the cockpit and rotor won't tabbing. Just file down the connection pegs bit by bit until they stay together.
Yeah unfortunately the Recon mold is the same as movie 1 mold, and that was when they were in the "we have these ultra complex designs to do, but we're still not quite sure how to do it" phase. Ironhide seems like he was a tricky one to nail down. They really didn't get the chest tabbing in right until SS (and even then went back to bad with the MPM). He does look imposing on a shelf though with all those weapons!
Trying to get it down to 1 eventually, which is extra sad! They're all great (even my broken original) and I wish I had the space to keep them all
With no studio series Mudflap and skids ever happening, you think this is the best we can do?
