    Best: Ironhide

Worst: Prolly Crowbar because his vehicle mode won't stay together and his hair gets easily bent out of shape.

    Decepticons, attack!

I had to leave the SS militarycons back home because of luggage space, so for the mean time these old fellas will be rejoining my collection.

Tbh I’m getting hesistant on selling them (again). They may suck but they’re also full of memories and shit.

All military and construction stuff were very small in 2007, ROTF, and HFTD. I group the 3 into phase 1 of Movieverse toys while phase 2 is DOTM, AOE, TLK, and SS. The reason is because I noticed that both phases share an interesting dynamic that distinctly seperates old and new TFs.

So basically, y’know how carbots have become super duper tiny recently? The shrinkage began in DOTM (Soundwave and Barricade), got worse in AOE (all) and slightly better in TLK (Cogman, Hot Rod, Bumblebee), while SS is an all time low. Most people would point them out as proof Transformers have gotten smaller, but the fact here is; your toys’ budgets are measured by waves and not individually.

By comparison, did you notice how guys who were Phase 2-carbot sized in phase 1 such as Rampage, Brawl and Bonecrusher are suddenly big, monstrous Voyagers in phase 2? This is all part of the dynamic swing in the production of movieverse toys.

In the past size classes were determined by popularity and not actual scale, this is why Hasbro made seemingly odd choices like Leader Brawl and Bumblebee while ignoring more obvious ones like Blackout, Shockwave, and DOTM Megatron. This ties in into why carbots were bigger because it’s clear that those who turn into cars are arguably more popular than ones that turn into military or construction vehicles. Like, really, if you were a kid when ROTF came out would you rather get a hideous and monstrous Rampage or a sleek shiny and sexy Sideswipe?

Now that Hasbro’s decided to focus on scale instead, this is where they started shifting the pendulum. Previously oversized characters were suddenly becoming as small as they should be, while those who’re undersized are finally getting the size and mass they deserve.

In other words, Transformers have not become smaller, their plastic distribution has just changed.

    Very astute observation! :)

I remember how odd it was back in the ROTF days when you had characters with very different sized being put in the same size-class. I don’t mind smaller figures as long as we never go back to the days of tiny Megatrons and Leader Bumblebees. There is not one SS figure I have seen that made me go “the original was better”. Even characters I have no interest in like Lockdown and Stinger (if it can even be called a character) are better looking toys than their original incarnations from AoE. Case in point, I know some people are dissing SS Bonecrusher for being on the small side, but did they forget that the original didn’t even have real elbows? Or that the original Barricade couldn’t even turn his head? Figures are getting smaller yes, but they pack so much more into them. I would take a tiny but possible figure over a massive brick. That’s why I hated Armada, 99% of the figures were inarticulate bricks. Now we have an Optimus with over 90 degree knee bends and a Jazz who can stand on one foot unaided (I know, I tried it). I’m not trying to bash the 07 toyline, it was ambition and really good for its time (bar some duds), but we have come a long way in ten years.

Never in a million years would I have ever thought we would get a leader Blackout or a Devastator that had actual robot modes for his components.

For me, I felt Drift just seemed incomplete. He seems way too out of proportion. The movie shows him sleek and agile like Sideswipe, Dino, and Jazz. But his toy makes him oddly wide or perhaps bulky is the word. If anything, I'd love for the new Drift that is coming to be agile-looking since that's how he looked. Not really many Deluxes have disappointed me as of yet, so I'm hoping with little hope that the new Drift will be both a Bugatti Veyron and upgrade to the original AoE toy. Also, Crosshairs and Hot Rod were listed a while back so I hope those two do also get some sort of upgrade.
As much as a Helicopter Drift would be nice, I really want a Bugatti Veyron. That needs way more of an update than the Helicopter.
Awe man, he looks near damn perfect. The only problem is the smokestacks as of right now. They needed to be taller at LEAST. Has anyone tried remedying it yet?

I honestly don't mind his AoE figure. I have the Autobots United version, and he looks damn good. My only real problems with him are his spoiler in alt mode and his incredibly inaccurate head.

I want Jetfire so much! I don't really care about the face but I still hope it's not that noticeable in hand. If it is, I might cut it just to make it slightly thinner (The thing covering his eyes)

    - Barricade barely used the mace thing.
    - You have to transform the whole arm to connect it.
    - It looks weird and doesn't flip on properly for me at least.
    - It's bent in package and after straightening it, it bends again!

MPM Barricade is great but that accessory is another story.

It’s frustrating to see how expensive studio series Ironhide is online. I don’t want to pay $40-50+ for a voyager. How much isn’t shipping at robot kingdom?
