    *looks at TM Megatron*

    Uh...

*continues cleaning flaked paint from Rattrap...*

    Um...

Both Kingdom and the original BW toys have their strengths and weaknesses. But saying one is "lower quality" than the other is just wrong.

None of BW "needed" to be remade, but they did because nostalgia is a powerful tool in their belt.

And remember, it's not just for people like us who never left or still have our old toys... it's for those just learning about it through digital media and nostalgic adults shopping for toys with their kids.

It's the same reason Studio exists despite the movies having had even more modern toys than BW.

I personally can't see them trying Transmetal Primal and Megatron for $50 each. On the other hand, they sold G1 Astrotrain for $40, so who knows?

I mean, it's not. Again, TM Megatron as the exception, older toys had higher quality plastics. They have higher quality builds. They have higher quality everything. You don't see flaking chrome on modern toys because modern toys would never use chrome because it's too expensive. They use objectively higher quality (and thus higher cost) materials because back then things weren't so expensive.

Whether or not you consider them better toys is up to you. Modern toys certainly have more detailed sculpts and better engineering/articulation that comes from decades of toy evolution, but toys are undeniably more cheaply made these days. Hell, I love Kingdom, but those toys are not anywhere close to the pure in-hand feel and quality of the originals. Kingdom Cheetor glows under light.

It really isn't, though. Pointing to one singular flaw that was a botched chroming process that led to flaking is a red herring. The figures were simply meatier and generally more solidly built than today's figures. Of course, there are exceptions - but pick up vintage Cheetor and compare it to Kingdom Cheetor and the differences are clearly not in Kingdom's favor in that you're paying more for less, despite superior design work.

I would take Kingdom Cheetor over the original Cheetor any day of the week despite of the quality of the plastic.

If this listing for Primal really is for the original ultra, you all are in for a treat if you’ve never experienced it. But damn that price youch(before anyone tells me why, save it, I know).

These listings are most likely the originals with possibly the new heads for Primal and Megatron from the last reissues. Oddly, the price of the reissue two pack in 2006 was $39.99...

I think the Transmetals are a future wave. I’ll only get the TM reissues if they’re painted instead of chrome.. I have the chrome ones, including Metals Megatron.

Hmmm. I’m intrigued. If it’s OG, then I’m definitely hunting down a Ratrap. If it’s Transmetals, does that mean Megatron won’t suffer from GPS?

Ok so what if these aren\'t reissues of OG beast wars? And these are just redecos if kingdom? We know that the deep blue cheetor is coming at some point. Primal could come with a bunch of extras to get the leader price point.

I mean in terms of engineering, they're still fine, but in terms of "accuracy"... not so much. Especially for the movie figures since they were made mid-production.

Optimus Primal is like the one exception in terms of BW.

Both ultras of Primal and Megatron were dang fun. If it does end up being this, I wonder if they'll use the reissue heads and recolored chests.

I can also see Hasbro trying to capitalize off Kong vs Godzilla.

I mean they reissued him for the 10th anniversary and that seemed to be fixed.

That Cheetor is rumored to be part of the Netflix line but it COULD be possible I suppose.

I think that's a pretty good argument for it NOT being Kingdom repacks in that we're getting toy colored Cheetor from the Netflix release.

A lot of the original BW toys not only suffered from lack of show accuracy but also from dated engineering. Sure, they were pretty innovative for the time but they also had bad proportions, clunky articulation and gimmicks that hindered the whole figures at times (Hell, I still don't understand why people hated Universe Cheetor because of his hunchback and yet they loved Fuzors Silverbolt despite of his just as big backpack).

EDIT: OG Cybershark still rocks somehow. That's a figure that was waaaaay ahead of its time.

But the point is the quality of old toys doesn't preclude new versions since they're so old at this point.

If HasTak thinks modern Transmetals will sell, they'll make new ones. Same reason it appears they're considering a new Menasor after only 10 years.

That's a combination of Inflation and Oil Prices for ya. Things were sorta different back then.

I'm kind of wondering if they will look like the stuff in your pic and have new colors. Do you think Hasbro would do some re-tooling? and Why, I guess they would be updated vintage figures.
