I’d argue that in terms of the 84/85 lineup Skids has a better design than most of them.

Skids played a bigger role in the Marvel Comics. He even got an entire issue focused on him.

I don't even follow sportsball, but you just described Skids perfectly!

Also, bonus points for doing it without equating his lack of screentime with a lack of value to the Autobot cause.

Just because you barely ever saw him play doesn't mean he gave any less than his all when he did play.

I thought stores outside of the US were getting solid cases of these exclusives. While Walmarts are getting one Cosmos per case.

Yeah it's stores, but it's not mass retail. Like you guys don't realise it but the Walmart/Target model of shops doesn't really exist outside the US, we still have specialist shops for specific purposes (for the most part)

A lot of comic shops picked up Velocitron, but if you live in a country that doesn't have specialist shops? Not a hope

No characters from BW or Cybertron leaked yet despite both shows getting two figures this year, unfortunately

Yeah I think this is good evidence that the Energon Monsters were a dropped concept. Mark’s wording is pretty clear cut.

Last minute these Pretenders were approved for slots slated for dropped characters.

The most popular guess is that the Energon Monsters were probably supposed to be the new iteration of the Weaponizer/Modulator/Fossilizer gimmick. Given Legacy’s theme of Energon weapons and different kinds of Energon, that kind of gimmick figure would’ve fit perfectly into the line (dudes who are able to break apart into Energon armor/weapons for your other dudes).

Sure, just like technically we get 3 UT figures this year and 2 next year. Doesn't make us any less disappointed

I don't think his wording is that clear cut to be honest. Pretenders replaced dropped characters, but there's no context for what those dropped characters might have been. Also with the Decepticon pretenders turning into literal monsters, there's a connection there with the Energon Monster product listings.

Wait what is there to be disappointed about? It's not like we know all the listings for next year so there is still the possibility for more UT characters. Plus next year seems to have an even spread across all continuities, no longer dominated by 84-86 G1. So far next year has the best variety of figures in I don't even know how long.

Yup, going forward it looks like we’re getting more and more diversity and equity among different lines. Even G1 is moving away from the core 84-86 cast.

The Energon Monster concept must not have been all that good - happy to see late G1 character representation and hopefully there's more to come!
