list the TF characters, "you think" got horrible updated/upgrade homage new molds.

nothing is off the table, this thread isn't just about new mold updated homages that were in the classics, universe & generations toy lines. Everything as far as TF toy lines are included such as G-2,Beastwars,beastmachines, armada, energon, cybertron, animated, the 2 live action TF movies. masterpieces, alternators,Titanium, alternity, beastwars second, beastwars neo & what ever else I didn't list.

    here's my short list:

beastwars Cheetor. The 1996 deluxe toy mold was the best. everything afterwards was just a disaster. the TM1 cheetor was a mixed bag. the TM2 Cheetor just looked awful. beastmachines mega & supreme cheetor were just wastes of plastic. nightslash cheetor was a decent toy. classics 2.0 cheetor had a notre dame hunch back lump in robot mode coupled with skinny limbs.

    Optimus Primal.
Granted there was nothing spectacular about the 1996 ape alt mode. but the toys just kept getting worse. it's plainly obvious BW megatron got the best toys or the faction leaders in BW/BM.

    Shockwave
what exactly is the point in giving all these micro-change bots all these radical updated homages with different alt modes. might as well just slap a new persona character name on the new mold toy. energon shockwave/blast was just a awful mode that looked nothing like the 1985 shockwave alt mode.
alternators shockwave/blast was just a shockwave designed head on top of a car/bot repaint that looked zero like 1985 shockwave. animated shockwave looked decent as a toy just not a decent shoxkwave homage.

    Soundwave:
got more awful updated toys that decent ones. about the only decent new mold was the MP3 player. all the car-van alt modes looked horrible. that live action movie satelite soundwave is just pure awful. cybertron soundwave is a decent design, just not a decent soundwave updated homage. I'm just not a fan of randomly sticking a cassete door + radio buttons+speakers all over vechicle based soundwave new mold toys. wfc soundwave is another up comming awful toy.

    Optimus Prime:
armada leader toy, energon leader sized toy,all the TF animated sized toys.
G-2 mega sized "hero" toy. PMOP,sorry i hated the design & toy gimmicks, the trailer super robot mode was a cool idea but just looked awful in design. classics 1.0 deluxe sized toy. I'm not a fan of the double cab windowed robot chest with painted on windows. I prefer clear translucent robot chest cab windows.

    Springer.
Neither Universe version was anything more than a repaint and didn't have a third mode.

    Blurr.
Generations Blurr, I'm sorry, but he just doesn't look anywhere near sleek enough for the character. The Drift mold is just too bulky. The Animated version got it right.

    Ultra Magnus.
I think only the Animated figure really did justice to the character. The rest were all (to my memory) repaints of either Optimus or his power-up gimmick (Armada).

    Devastator.
The Energon version (and repaint if there was one, god I'm rusty) just looks so off in combined mode. Mostly in the torso- too slim and the head is all wrong.

    Ironhide.
Classics was the only good one. Movie and Energon both had nothing to homage the G1 version at all (not that they necessarily intended to).

I could also name some of the random Legends-class repaint (aerialbots, scattorshot) but those don't bother me much.

I mostly agree with everything you said but not ultra magnus.

Yes I agree ultra magnus got the horrible mis-fortune of being the white optimus prime mold repaints.

However ultra magnus also received 2 extremly accurate exact updated homage new molds. which is a quite rare thing to see. that titanium 6 inch G-1 styled ultra magnus is as exact update homage. the CR/RID super sized ultra magnus toy did a great job of doing a update homage for the 1986 character/toy. its a truck+car car carrier alt mode that transforms into a ultra magnus looking robot mode. i'd consider animated ultra magnus to be a update homage based loosely off the CR/RID designs with a radical alt mode.

    Galvatron.
Energon wasn't too bad, but it had its limitations.
Universe was a floppy, miscolored tiny mess with odd hands and a barely poseable turret. And that alt mode just didn't fit.
Henkei was much better colored in robot mode, but still tiny. And the chrome was in odd places (not that I can think of any better ones).

Six G1 Constructions, trying to look alive.
One swallowed another and grew; then there were five.

Five little Constructicons fell and broke on the floor.
Landfill was repainted, and then there were four.

Four little Constructicons, but I'm waiting now to see:
In the next homage or update, will there be only three?

This (and a big thank you to Fansproject)

    Wheeljack.
His BT/ALT update wasn't even the right colorscheme (not to mention it was a redeco), and Energon Downshift didn't even come close to doing the character justice.

    Grimlock.
MP and Animated were great, and while Classics Grimmy may have a good beast mode, I just don't care all that much for the robot mode.

    Cheetor.
I'm not sure what that spine-contorted, body distorted piece of crap is that Universe 2.0 gave us is supposed to be.

    Megatron.
Specifically; ROTF leader class. Leg movement was alright, but what was up with those arms?

Also on Megatron, is it just me, or has Classics given us the ONLY homage version? I mean it seems that somewhere in there he started being either a jet or a tank (or in the case of the ROTF voyager; jeturtletank).

Well, depending on your point of view, you could see Animated Megatron as a tribute to Super Megatron, who only ever appeared in one Japanese series and I don't remember which one. But there are a couple homage versions in CHUG; there's the voyager Nerf-a-tron (Henkei version if you want decent colors), the deluxe G2-esque tank (which, back in the day, I heard much better things about than the deluxe Optimus he originally came with), the Legends G2 tank, and the upcoming Legends gun (which looks to be pretty awesome).

Also :lolol  at jeturtletank, but it's so true.

Well, the Classics Deluxe gave us an homage to the G2 version, with the Special Edition as an homage to the G2 version in G1 colors. As well as the Legends G2 Megatron homage.

Cybertron Galvatron colorscheme was an homage to the G1 color scheme.

But I guess none of them really were that close....

speaking of super megatron, I've always thought that the animated voyager megatron was a dead ringer for super megatron.

    Ironhide:
There really is no good Ironhide figure in my eyes. The Movie version barely stays together at the waist, and the Universe/Classics figure is just plain terrible

    Grimlock:
Aside from MP of course. The Classics figure is bad and the Animated figure is overrated

    Galvatron:
The Energon version is cool, and I like the Classics figure, it's just TOO small

Ironhide: His Classicsverse mold is by far my least favorite deluxe of the line (even beating out Cheetor and Galvatron). It's a mess. He has weird window panels hanging off of his arms, hollow holes in his legs, a jigsaw puzzle wannabe alt mode, a combination of allspark blue/clear windows that look out of place, and the head is funky (even modded to move it up more). He is one of the most disappointing figures to me simply because G1 Ironhide still does not have a great mold, and he is probably my second favorite G1 character. On top of that, the movie molds have not been spectacular. Recon Ironhide is fun, but the base mold still is not all that good.

Also, edited to add the more recent versions of Megatron:
He isn't as unfortunate as Ironhide, but he has the inferior toy to Prime 95% of the time. Really, the only Megatron toy I own that I prefer over the OP of the same line is Leader Animated Megatron. Movie Megatron still does not have one toy I would say is good (though the RotF Voyager is decent). I really want a Movie Megs that can stand next to both Leader Prime and Starscream and not look silly in comparison. I do think the Generations WFC Megs looks very cool, but I still am a bit underwhelmed by the alt mode. Nonetheless, he is still the WFC toy I want the most, as I really want another good version of Megs.

I noticed the homage similarities when I first saw the internet toy pics of animated leader sized megatron.

The series your referring to is the 1991 Takara battle stars/return of convoy.
where both super & ultra magatron appeared in the form of design sketches. those designs sketches were used heavily in the battle stars toy pamphlet catalog comics & magna comics released in japan.

ultra & super megatron as the majority know never got a 1991 toy. no 1991 toys appeared in the cartoon since there wasn't one to begin with.

the masterpiece megatron gave us the most closets exact update homage mold based off the 1984 megatron toy/cartoon designs.

it's a decent mold but kinda out of scale with other TF toys on display shelves. 14 inches tall in robot mode is way out of scale for that character/toy.

i'm most likely going to be buying the 3rd party igear smaller scale MP megatron. as that toy in robot mode should be about 9 inches tall. which puts the figure at a very tall $27 ultra sized toys or a decent sized leader sized toy. it'll just match better on display with various leader sized toys from AEC,Animated & the 2 live action TF movies.

I'd generally agree with you, but I will say that I think the Botcon version was really, really nice. The headsculpt could've been better, but I'll take it. He even has the "battle sled" ffs.

I know I'm alone on this, but Mirage. The Classics Mirage figure is an incredible, awesome transformer that has absolutely nothing in common with the G1 toy/character. Don't get me wrong, I own two of them, it's one of my favorite classics molds, but as an homage/update, it just fails.

You know, I totally forgot about those figures. You're right, the RID and G1 Titanium were great versions.

    :lol  So true.

On the Galvatron bit- I'm in the camp of Energon Galvatron being a pretty good update. Let's face it, the G1 Megatron/Galvatron figures just had crappy alt modes. The Energon version had the crown, the purple (and what a great shade!), the arm cannon, and even better it has an alt mode that does something!

The more I look at it, the more I love Classics Grimlock. While MP is the true update to the Grimlock we know and love, I've almost always considered the Classics version to be more in line with the Pretender.
