This always proved to me it was Metroplex.
Plus they (manually) Transform him to battle station mode. And S3 explained his cog got damaged.

That is Smokescreen who dies instead of Wheeljack. It was a simple animation error, just like Sunstreker being in two places at the same time, two Rumbles or two Fenzy's (depending on your color theory), Thundercracker being at the coronation, Shrapnel being on Planet Junk.

    Wheeljack is back in Victory.

The official canon is that he wasn't a toy yet.

@CigarJackal , he wasn't a toy in production but in the plans and since the movie people had access to all the diaclone designs that were being produced, slated for production or tentative, what became metroplex was one of them. The TFCB08 looks like it reads Trans Form City ... Base maybe?

here is a the post from another thread with the old pic.

Canon has nothing to do with factual events canon has to do with fiction the fact that he was in a toy it means nothing

Hate to break it to you, but Ironhide is most definitely dead. You evidently didn't see the G1 episode (post-1986 movie) where they visited an Autobot crypt and Ironhide's tomb was the focal point of a scene (had his name engraved in big ol' letters for all to see). It also showed his corpse, which had a hole in the head from where Megatron blasted him. So yeah, he definitely died in the movie and that episode of the cartoon series is your confirmation. If I recall correctly, some of the other dead Autobots whose deaths you're unsure of were confirmed dead in that episode, too. I think it was the episode where they revived Prime temporarily (before his permanent resurrection later in the series), but I'm not sure. It's been decades since I saw it, but I know for a fact that Ironhide was dead as a doornail.

That episode is called “dark awakening” and when is the last time you saw it?You seem to be misremembering a few things

Aside from Optimus this was the only corpse we saw

And not only does this not look Ironhide, there is no “hole in the head from where Megatron blasted him”

I’ve always found it very interesting how many fans believe they saw Ironhides body with a hole in the head, either in season 3 or in a Ultra Violent edit of the actual film

    No

the only confirmed deaths in that episode were in Danny’s dialog as he walked pass each tomb, and I quote..

    Ironhide,Ratchet, Prowl,Huffer...
