Felt compelled to make a thread for this. I wish everyone (3P and official) would stop using light piping. Objectively I enjoy the idea, it is technically clever and effective, but I just don't see the point in making it a standard feature. I know many companies are not doing it and that MP's don't have it (most of the time). I don't see the need for a feature that 99% of the time requires me to place a figure line of sight behind a light source that I'd use for exactly five seconds. I'd say since the Alternators line (at least for me) we've been able to paint eyes that have a lifelike feel that seem to have the effect of following you from any viewing angle. I'm also of the opinion that missiles that fire and light up features are in that five second rule of enjoyment. These are less of a gripe for me because they make more sense for a feature, however I'd like to see light up elements have either swappable bits (as they do with eyes sometimes) or painted over with the allowance for light to come through when in use so you have a effect without the use of batteries.
I'm not really a fan. It does look pretty but it's not always executed well. I definitely don't like it on MPs, but for chugs it's OK I guess. The plastic spoils the look of the robot's head.
Guess I should have searched but didn't think there would be another like minded person making a thread.
It would be amazing if it worked from even the faintest light in the room but that’s not the case. I do like clear eyes over painted though.
