Yes it is fair to demand that. If we want a multicultural society then people need to make an effort to correctly pronounce names not in thier language. Not force people to change thier names just for your convenience. I agree with you on everything else. To live in harmony there has to be tolerence from both sides. Try not to be too offensive and also don't be offended too easily. Just to be on topic: Fan BingBing over Li BingBing anytime. Calvin0: Yes, but uneccessary. I gave my kids Chinese names...English people will comment that they are nice names. Chinese people will ask why I don't give them English names and aren't I scared kids will take the piss out of them at school. WTF is that about?
No... Li is her first name. 1) That's obvious 2) for the sake of western news, eastern names are always swapped into western format (forename - surname).
Oh right, her. The white haired witch from The Forbidden Kingdom. If she kept as fit as she was then, and given the right role, it will be fun to watch. Add in Ziyi Zhang (Rush Hour 2), and have them in a good duel, it might make me forget about the lack of TFs.
Li is a surname. Li = Lee = Ly e.g. Bruce Lee. Lee is his surname If the Transformers are anything like the designs from the first 3 movies then the less the better.
Why Li BingBing and not Fan BingBing? Fan BingBing is much hotter - in fact considered the hottest in China.
No, Li is her family name. Chinese girls like to double up on their first names to sound cute, just like my wife's first name is "Si," but everyone calls her SiSi.
Huh 90% of Asians have English names? Didja get your facts correct dude? How about Asians of Muslim background, have you ever consider that?
You're right it's more like 95% However, I'll clarify I'm on about the yellow variety of Asians as this is a Li Bing Bing subject. India and thereabouts tend to keep their proper names more. Much respect to those Sri Lancans who do not change thier names despite it being crazy long and difficult to pronounce (in English). And yes, I consider it too much...which is why I'm talking about it on a Transformers forum.
What in the world are you talking about?? You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. It's more like 95% of Asians DON'T have a Western name. If you say them correctly there's nothing "funny" about an Asian name. Double names are quite common and nicknames are usually just doubling up one of the syllables in a name. My friends' names are HuiHui, YuanYuan, MoMo, YiYi, YaYa, JingJing and so on. The fact some of you manchildren still laugh at names...wow.
I hope by the end of this thread everyone is used to doubled names. In the spirit of helping to promote doubled names, here are a few more pics of Fan Bingbing
Easy there. We are on the same side. I am referring only to overseas (Specifically those in an English speaking country) Asians. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Also, Grandum has convinced me that what people find funny is up to them. His previous post is quite good.
