    Ebay:
I got one for $47 shipped a couple days ago from Ebay ($16 markup for me). Just don't feel like searching everyday.

The difference is Takara uses black screws. Slight but it's there.

Most of the price difference is importing. In general? It's $5-10 extra for cartoon accurate paintjobs that spare extra paint to cover up the gang molded pieces.

I agree it's not always better and was frequently equal quality but I get frustrated at Hasbro when they emphasize toy deco homages -- particularly on '86 movie characters.

Most of the rest DID originate as toys but the '86 characters were animation models first and to me the toys of those characters are the inferior knock off of the animation models.

And the Marvel comics -- while great at fleshing out tons of characters and giving them a more respectable treatment -- generally didn't have as strong of a voice for the cartoon featured characters. And cheaped out on color schemes albeit with some attractive hues.

So I'll throw out my preference:

    Non-'86 movie character deco arrangements:

    Toy>IDW>Cartoon>Marvel

    '86 movie character deco arrangements:

    Cartoon>Toy>IDW>Marvel

    Character color palettes:

    Marvel>IDW>Cartoon>Toy

    Character Models:

    Cartoon>Dreamwave>IDW>Marvel>Toy

Characterization/Personality of characters who were the protagonists of episodes:

    Cartoon>IDW>Toy>Marvel

Characterization/Personality of characters who were the NOT protagonists of episodes:

    IDW>Marvel>Toy bio>Cartoon

These are just my priorities but they're fairly defensible as sound rankings when it comes to designing new stuff. And generally reflected more closely by Takara even though they probably skew a bit more Cartoon>All than I do.

As far as palettes go, I'll offer the caveat again that IDW and the cartoons have better '86 movie character palettes and probably better palettes for late G1 characters as well.

They look like tasty ice cream flavors. And Takara is MUCH bigger than Hasbro on colors that would look equally as appealing on ice cream.

True dat, so in order for my repug... crap, I forgot that I have TT doublecross and the headmaster has the black screw. I was going to use the silver screw on repugnus headmaster so that all the headmasters has the silver screws so they all match, damn it!

Hopefully this means some Hasbro Grotusques turn up a touch cheaper than current ebay prices.

I do not know if anyone else has noticed, but on the left front side of the box there is a logo for the 35TH Anniversary of the Transformers franchise. I wonder if more Transformers toys released this year will be part of celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Transformers franchise.

It still royally sucks that these are exclusives. I'd really like to get them for a reasonable price...

When they were available from hasbro the price was reasonable and they were easy enough to get if you were in the states. From Takara the price is also pretty reasonable and in line with their pricing structure

Hasbro release where exclusives as well, so other then the extra headmasters that came with the American ver., then I think they are.

I think they're identical to the Hasbro releases, but they lack the extra die cast heads.

Only Grotusque had the die-cast titanmaster of Scorponok included with him. Repungnus had the primemaster Solus Prime.

Okay, it's almost release time. I'm glad I got that extra Repugnus head that came with Takara Legends Brawn. I like that much better than the one that comes with the Deluxe figure.

In any case, that'll be the Monsterbots finally crossed off my list.
